Are you a seasoned Tax Attorney looking for a high-level practice without the relentless pressure of a 2,000+ billable hour requirement?
I am currently representing a highly respected law firm seeking a Tax Partner (or Senior Counsel) to join their team. This is a rare "service partner" opportunity where the primary focus is handling a sophisticated, existing workflow rather than being required to bring a massive book of business.
The Role
The firm is looking for a technical powerhouse with at least 12+ years of experience to serve as a key advisor to middle-market companies and high-net-worth individuals. You will lead complex tax structuring and strategy across a diverse range of corporate and private client matters.
What Sets This Position Apart?
- No Portable Business Required: While a book of business is always a plus, the firm’s primary need is high-level execution for their active, ongoing client base.
- Incentivized Growth: If you do originate work, you are rewarded. The firm pays a monthly percentage of collected originations across all practice areas.
- Work-Life Integration: There is no set billable hour requirement, allowing you to focus on quality of counsel and client outcomes.
- Compensation: Base salary ranging from $225,000 – $325,000, commensurate with experience, pedigree, and skill set.
Key Areas of Expertise
The ideal candidate will have a deep working knowledge of:
- Corporate & Partnership Tax: M&A support, entity formation/funding, fund formation, and business succession planning.
- International Tax: Cross-border transactions and navigating US/Foreign operations.
- Real Estate Structuring: Including 1031 exchanges, REITs, and Opportunity Zones.
- Tax Controversy & Litigation: Representing clients in Tax Court or Federal District Court.
- High-Net-Worth Advisory: Estate and gift tax planning, individual income tax audits, and tax-exempt organizations.
Qualifications
- 12+ years of sophisticated tax experience (Law firm experience preferred).
- JD from an accredited law school; LL.M. in Taxation is a significant advantage.
- Proven ability to handle complex tax matters independently.
- A collaborative mindset suited for a high-touch, client-focused environment.
