PeerSource is currently recruiting for a Senior Manager of Accounting on a Direct Hire basis. This role is based out of Golden, CO.


Summary


We are seeking an experienced accounting leader to oversee general accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, and audit support within a complex public-sector environment. This role manages the general ledger, property-related billing and receivables, balance sheet reconciliations, asset accounting, and regulatory reporting while leading accounting staff and driving process improvements. The position also serves as a key resource for accounting systems, compliance matters, and cross-functional financial guidance.


Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily general accounting operations, including management of the general ledger and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
  • Lead and strengthen internal controls to ensure accounting activities and reporting are completed timely and in compliance with GAAP, GASB, and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Manage the property management fund, including billings, receivables, and related financial decision-making, while supervising the associated support function.
  • Review and approve journal entries, bank reconciliations, and balance sheet reconciliations; resolve reconciling items promptly and identify unusual activity or fraud risk.
  • Coordinate the annual financial audit and support preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report, including schedules, analysis, and audit documentation.
  • Oversee accounting for district assets, including timely and accurate capitalization of construction and facility-related assets.
  • Supervise accounting-related teams and managers, including hiring, performance management, workflow oversight, and staff development.
  • Serve as the functional lead for the general ledger module within the financial system, partnering on upgrades, patches, customizations, and system-related process improvements.
  • Provide accounting guidance to departments and schools, interpret applicable regulations, and ensure timely completion of required state reporting.


Required Skills

  • 5+ years of accounting experience, including at least 3 years of staff leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Strong background in general ledger management, financial reporting, balance sheet reconciliation, audit coordination, and internal controls.
  • Experience with ERP financial systems; PeopleSoft/Workday preferred.
  • Knowledge of GAAP, GASB, governmental accounting standards, and regulatory reporting requirements. ACFR experience is required.
  • Ability to improve processes, standardize procedures, manage priorities, and lead teams effectively across multiple accounting functions.
  • Strong judgment, analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate with stakeholders at all levels while providing high-quality internal service.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field. CPA preferred.
  • Prior public sector experience (county/state/local) with K12 experience highly preferred.
