Senior Manager, Corporate Accounting

Overview

A growing, mission-driven organization is seeking a Senior Manager, Corporate Accounting to lead and execute core general ledger and close activities. This is a highly hands-on leadership role responsible for maintaining the integrity of financial data, driving an efficient close process, and overseeing key accounting functions including AP, AR, and revenue.

The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting expertise, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and is comfortable rolling up their sleeves while leading a small team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and execute the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, ensuring an accurate and timely close (target: ≤7 business days)
  • Lead general ledger operations, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations across all major balance sheet and income statement accounts
  • Review and approve bank and credit card reconciliations, ensuring completeness and accuracy of cash activity
  • Oversee revenue accounting, including reconciliation of multiple revenue streams and adherence to applicable accounting standards
  • Provide detailed financial statement analysis, including variance explanations and actionable insights for leadership
  • Manage and optimize the chart of accounts and ensure proper mapping to financial statements
  • Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including process efficiency, controls, and team performance
  • Establish, maintain, and enhance internal controls and accounting policies to ensure compliance and scalability
  • Partner with FP&A on budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes
  • Serve as the primary liaison for external audits and tax engagements, including preparation of schedules and supporting documentation
  • Identify and implement process improvements, automation, and system enhancements across accounting workflows
  • Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff, fostering accountability and continuous improvement
  • Participate in and lead cross-functional initiatives and special projects

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited institution
  • 6–8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including full-cycle GL ownership
  • Demonstrated success managing a fast and accurate close process (≤7 days)
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and corporate accounting practices
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, data manipulation, and analysis)
  • Deep understanding of general ledger structures, chart of accounts, and financial reporting relationships
  • Proven experience managing AP and AR functions and personnel
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA or CPA candidate strongly preferred
  • Experience in a mid-sized organization ($50M–$150M revenue range)
  • Background in a mission-driven, nonprofit, or service-based organization is a plus
  • Experience improving or implementing accounting systems/ERP platforms
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution
