Senior Mechanical Engineer

RodgersHouder: Human Capital Solutions
Naperville, IL

About the Company:

We are working with a leading manufacturer of automated packaging and material handling equipment used in high-volume production environments to identify multiple Senior Mechanical Engineers to join their innovation and engineering team.

About the Role:

This is a highly hands-on role focused on designing and developing complex mechanical systems with moving components, including mechanisms, motion systems, conveyors, and pneumatic assemblies.

The team is hiring across two core areas:

  • New Product Development (NPD): concept through prototype
  • New Product Introduction (NPI): production launch, optimization, and performance improvement

This is an opportunity to work in a fast-paced, build-and-test environment where engineers are deeply involved from design through real-world machine operation.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop mechanical systems for automated equipment, including mechanisms, motion systems, and material handling components
  • Create 3D models, detailed drawings, and BOMs for complex assemblies
  • Participate in prototyping, testing, and iterative design improvements
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues on the shop floor and during machine startup
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing, controls, and operations teams
  • Support equipment through build, validation, and production deployment

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in machine design, automation, or equipment engineering

Required Skills:

  • Experience designing mechanical systems with moving components (conveyors, mechanisms, pneumatics, robotics, etc.)
  • Background working with custom machinery or industrial automation equipment
  • Hands-on experience with assembly, debugging, testing, or machine startup
  • Proficiency in CAD tools (SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of design for manufacturing and real-world system performance

What This Role Is NOT:

To ensure alignment, this role is not focused on:

  • HVAC systems
  • Consumer product design
  • Pure manufacturing or process engineering
  • Highly theoretical or analysis-only roles

Pay range and compensation package:

Salary typically falls in the $125K – $140K range, depending on experience.

Why This Role:

Highly hands-on engineering environment (not just CAD work), direct impact on equipment design, performance, and innovation, strong pipeline of new development work and investment in engineering, opportunity to work on complex, real-world machinery from concept through production.
