The Opportunity
This is not a dead-end purchasing role. We are hiring a Purchasing Assistant today with a clear, defined path to Purchasing Manager by the end of 2026. The current Purchasing Manager is retiring and leadership is committed to developing their replacement from within. If you're early in your procurement career and want to own a department within 18 months — this is the seat.
What You'll Do
- Support day-to-day procurement of raw steel, materials, and shop consumables
- Coordinate with project managers and shop floor on material schedules and delivery timelines
- Build and maintain vendor relationships with steel service centers and suppliers
- Track material costs against project budgets
- Assist in negotiating pricing and lead times with suppliers
- Manage purchase orders and procurement documentation
- Learn the full purchasing operation with direct mentorship from a seasoned Purchasing Manager
What You Bring
- 2+ years of purchasing or procurement experience in construction or fabrication — required
- Familiarity with steel, metals, or structural materials is a strong plus
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Comfortable working directly with vendors, suppliers, and internal teams
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; ERP or procurement software experience preferred
- Self-starter mentality with a desire to grow into a leadership role
Compensation & Details
- Base Salary: $70,000–$80,000, depending on experience
- Full-time, in-office position
