Micro-Cap Solutions is conducting a confidential search on behalf of a fast-growing structural and miscellaneous steel fabrication company seeking an Assistant Project Manager to support project execution across multiple fabrication and erection projects.
Our client is a rapidly scaling, project-driven business that has grown significantly in recent years and continues to invest in building out its project management team. The organization delivers complex steel fabrication solutions to commercial and industrial customers and is known for its execution, responsiveness, and ability to handle high-volume, fast-paced work.
The Role
This is a hands-on, execution-focused role supporting Project Managers across the full project lifecycle - from award through closeout.
The Assistant Project Manager will play a key role in coordinating project activities, managing documentation, supporting scheduling and procurement, and helping ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
You will work cross-functionally with estimating, purchasing, production, and field teams while also interacting with customers, contractors, and vendors.
This role is ideal for someone early in their project management career who wants exposure to complex projects and is looking to grow into a full Project Manager role.
Key Responsibilities
Project Coordination & Execution
- Support Project Managers in overseeing structural and miscellaneous steel projects from kickoff through completion
- Assist in maintaining project schedules and coordinating timelines across fabrication, purchasing, and field teams
- Help ensure alignment between shop production, material delivery, and field installation
Documentation & Project Controls
- Track and manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project documentation
- Maintain accurate project files, logs, and status updates
- Assist in reviewing drawings, specifications, and contract documents
Procurement & Vendor Coordination
- Coordinate with purchasing to track materials, equipment, and subcontracted services
- Follow up with vendors and subcontractors to ensure timely delivery and performance
Client & Internal Communication
- Support communication with customers, general contractors, engineers, and internal teams
- Participate in project meetings and help track action items and deliverables
Financial & Operational Support
- Assist in tracking project costs, budgets, and labor hours
- Support invoice review and general cost control efforts
Experience & Profile
- 1–4 years of experience in construction, steel fabrication, or industrial project environments
- Exposure to project coordination, project engineering, or assistant PM responsibilities
- Basic understanding of construction drawings, shop drawings, and project workflows
- Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work across multiple teams
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel required); exposure to ERP or project management systems is a plus
- Self-starter with a strong work ethic and desire to grow into a Project Manager role
