Mechanical Engineer IV
Location: Houston, TX (Hybrid – Onsite Monday, Tuesday & Thursday) (Local Candidates Only)
Duration: Until Jun 2027 (with a possibility of extension)
Travel: Approximately 20% (Texas and Nebraska)
Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer IV to support natural gas infrastructure projects focused on compressor stations and metering facilities. This position will play a key role in overseeing engineering design activities, coordinating with third-party engineering firms, manufacturers, and regulatory stakeholders, and ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient project execution.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the design and development of natural gas compressor stations and metering stations.
- Provide technical oversight of third-party engineering firms performing detailed design work.
- Review engineering deliverables to ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company specifications.
- Evaluate compressor station systems, piping layouts, equipment integration, and overall station functionality.
- Collaborate with design firms, equipment manufacturers, construction teams, and internal stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
- Participate in design reviews, technical evaluations, audits, and regulatory compliance activities.
- Conduct site visits during engineering, construction, and commissioning phases.
- Ensure projects comply with applicable regulations, including CFR 192 requirements.
- Identify design risks, technical issues, and opportunities for improvement while maintaining safety and operational excellence.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- 7+ years of relevant engineering experience.
- Strong experience in the natural gas industry, specifically with:
- Compressor Stations
- Metering Stations
- Gas Transmission Facilities
- Solid understanding of compressor station design and operation.
- Knowledge of piping systems, piping specifications, pressure ratings, and associated mechanical equipment.
- Working knowledge of CFR 192 and natural gas pipeline regulations.
- Experience reviewing and overseeing engineering designs performed by external consultants or contractors.
- Strong communication and project coordination skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with turbine-driven centrifugal compressors.
- Experience with motor-driven compressor systems.
- Familiarity with large horsepower compressor stations (10,000–30,000 HP range).
- Experience working directly with equipment manufacturers and regulatory agencies.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
Work Environment:
- Hybrid schedule with three days per week onsite in Houston, TX.
