Position Summary

The Materials & Logistics Specialist is responsible for supporting the efficient flow of materials throughout the organization. This position coordinates receiving, inventory control, warehouse operations, production material staging, shipping activities, and SAP transactions to ensure materials are available when needed while maintaining inventory accuracy and supporting on-time customer deliveries.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of working cross-functionally with Purchasing, Planning, Manufacturing, Quality, and Customer Service to ensure seamless material movement and inventory management.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Inventory Management

  • Maintain accurate inventory records through timely and accurate SAP transactions.
  • Support physical inventory activities.
  • Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies.
  • Monitor inventory levels and report shortages, excess inventory, and material concerns.
  • Ensure proper stock rotation and adherence to FIFO practices.

 

Receiving and Material Handling

  • Receive incoming materials and verify quantities against purchase orders and packing slips.
  • Coordinate material inspections with Quality Assurance.
  • Process receipts and inventory movements in SAP.
  • Label, store, and organize materials in designated warehouse locations.
  • Maintain material traceability and lot/batch control requirements.

 

Production Support

  • Stage and deliver materials to manufacturing based on production schedules.
  • Monitor production material availability and escalate shortages.
  • Support material replenishment activities to ensure uninterrupted production.
  • Return excess materials from production to inventory and complete required SAP transactions.

 

Shipping and Logistics

  • Prepare shipments in accordance with customer and company requirements.
  • Coordinate domestic and international shipments with carriers and freight providers.
  • Prepare shipping documentation, packing lists, and export-related paperwork as required.
  • Track shipments and communicate delivery status to internal stakeholders.
  • Support freight scheduling and transportation coordination.

 

SAP and Data Management

  • Execute inventory, warehouse, shipping, and receiving transactions within SAP.
  • Maintain accurate master data and transactional records.
  • Generate inventory and logistics reports as required.
  • Assist with process improvements related to material flow and inventory accuracy.

 

Continuous Improvement

  • Support Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve warehouse organization, inventory accuracy, and material flow.
  • Participate in root cause investigations related to inventory discrepancies and material shortages.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.

 

Qualifications

Experience

  • 2–5 years of experience in manufacturing, warehouse operations, logistics, inventory control, or supply chain.
  • Experience using ERP systems required; SAP experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting production environments preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of inventory management principles.
  • Working knowledge of shipping, receiving, and warehouse operations.
  • Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to accurately perform SAP transactions and maintain inventory records.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and move materials up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to operate warehouse equipment, including forklifts and pallet jacks, as required.
  • Ability to work in both office and manufacturing environments.
