Pereira & Associates, LLLP is a Marietta-based law firm with a well-established juvenile dependency and child welfare practice, along with a growing personal injury division. Our dependency team works closely with Cherokee County in matters affecting children and families, and we take seriously the responsibility and discretion that this work demands.


The Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented, dependable Legal Assistant to support our attorneys, with a primary focus on child dependency matters and occasional support on personal injury cases. This is an in-office and in-court position well suited to someone who is organized, comfortable in a courtroom setting, and able to handle sensitive, confidential information with care.


The position involves traveling to Cherokee County Juvenile Court approximately twice per week to support attorneys at hearings, in addition to substantial document preparation and filing work in the office.


Key Responsibilities

  • Attend court in Cherokee County roughly twice weekly to assist attorneys at dependency hearings, including organizing files, exhibits, and orders, and taking notes as needed
  • Prepare, format, and proofread court documents such as petitions, motions, and correspondence
  • Draft proposed court orders and perform substantive legal writing under attorney supervision
  • Manage electronic filing (e-filing) through Georgia's court e-filing systems and ensure documents are submitted accurately and on time
  • Coordinate and effect service of process on parties and ensure proof of service is properly documented and filed
  • Maintain and update the case calendar, track hearing dates and deadlines, and coordinate scheduling with the court, opposing counsel, and agencies
  • Communicate professionally with the court, DFCS, guardians ad litem, CASA volunteers, clients, and other parties
  • Open, organize, and maintain physical and electronic case files
  • Handle confidential and sensitive information involving children and families with strict discretion
  • Provide general administrative and litigation support to attorneys, and assist with personal injury matters as needed


Qualifications


Required

  • Paralegal certification (e.g., NALA, NFPA, ABA-approved program, or equivalent)
  • Prior experience as a legal assistant, paralegal, or in a comparable legal support role
  • Experience with court e-filing and familiarity with court procedures and deadlines
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and comfort learning case-management software
  • Reliable transportation for regular travel to Cherokee County
  • Discretion and sound judgment in handling confidential matters


Preferred

  • Experience in juvenile dependency, child welfare, family law, or a related practice area
  • Familiarity with Georgia juvenile court procedures and the Odyssey/PeachCourt e-filing systems
  • Notary commission (or willingness to obtain one)
