Overview

We are seeking an experienced HVAC Service Technician to perform residential service work, including diagnosing, repairing, and installing heating and cooling systems. You will ensure systems operate safely and efficiently while delivering clear communication and excellent service to homeowners. Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair residential HVAC systems, including furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, boilers, and related components.
  • Install furnaces, air conditioning units, heat pumps, and associated mechanical and control systems in residential properties.
  • Perform routine maintenance, seasonal tune-ups, and system inspections to optimize performance and extend equipment life.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, heating, cooling, and air conditioning issues to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
  • Verify that all work complies with applicable safety standards, manufacturer specifications, and local codes.
  • Use appropriate tools, instruments, and diagnostic equipment to test system performance and ensure proper operation.
  • Communicate clearly with customers about findings, recommended repairs, and options, providing straightforward explanations of work performed.
  • Document work performed, parts used, and system conditions in a clear and accurate manner.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area in customer homes and in the company vehicle.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation and respond to after-hours or weekend service calls as needed.
  • Collaborate with team members to coordinate schedules, share technical knowledge, and support overall service quality.
  • Follow all safety procedures and best practices to protect yourself, customers, and property during service and installation work.

Essential Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • EPA Section 608 Certification (mandatory).
  • Minimum of 2 years of residential HVAC experience.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing residential HVAC systems, including heating, air conditioning, and ventilation equipment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience with furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, and boilers.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting skills for mechanical, heating, and air conditioning issues.
  • Ability to interpret and follow safety standards, manufacturer guidelines, and local codes.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills in field service environments.
  • Excellent communication and customer service abilities, with the ability to explain technical information in simple terms.
  • Ability to work independently in the field and manage daily schedules effectively.
  • Commitment to safety and compliance with local codes and company procedures.
  • Professional demeanor, reliability, and punctuality.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • NATE Certification or equivalent industry credential.
  • Experience working with smart thermostats and home automation systems.
  • Familiarity with ductless mini-split systems and their installation and service.
  • Basic plumbing knowledge related to HVAC installations and service.
  • Basic electrical knowledge for HVAC controls, wiring, and system components.
  • Ability to adapt to changing schedules and varying customer needs throughout the day.
  • Comfort working in a variety of residential settings across a broad geographic area.

Work Environment

This is a full-time field-based role with a typical schedule of Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with the ability to work weekends as needed. You will participate in an on-call rotation with the rest of the team to support urgent or after-hours service needs. Work takes place in and around residential homes throughout the Chicagoland area and surrounding suburbs, requiring daily travel between job sites using a company vehicle. The role involves working both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions and in typical residential environments such as basements, attics, and mechanical rooms, while following appropriate safety and dress standards for professional in-home service.

The pay range for this position is $60000.00 - $65000.00/yr.
