Job Title: Construction Technician
Job Description

This role offers the opportunity to work as a hands-on construction technician in a shop and yard environment, performing a wide range of general labor and skilled repair tasks on mobile office trailers and modular buildings. You will handle loading and unloading materials, cleaning, demolition, and basic carpentry, as well as more detailed work such as framing, finish carpentry, light electrical, flooring, plumbing, painting, running gear, and HVAC checks. The position requires a strong focus on safety, quality workmanship, and readiness of units for delivery, along with occasional direct interaction with customers to explain services and repairs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform repairs to mobile office trailers and modular buildings, including framing and finish carpentry, electrical work, flooring, plumbing, painting, running gear, and other aspects of modular building repair.
  • Carry out general labor tasks such as demolition, cleaning, and loading and unloading materials in a shop and yard environment.
  • Perform check-in and check-out inspections of off-rented buildings by physically inspecting units to determine the scope of repairs and identifying damages for customer invoicing.
  • Create basic floor plan drawings as needed to document modifications or repair requirements.
  • Perform modifications and readiness work on modular buildings as requested by customers, ensuring units meet specified needs and quality standards.
  • Ensure trailers and modular units are fully prepared and ready for scheduled delivery dates at the required quality levels.
  • Maintain proper inventory levels of equipment, tools, parts, and value-added products needed to complete service tasks efficiently.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in the shop and yard.
  • Perform service-related tasks in the yard as requested, including movement and setup of trailers and units as needed.
  • Complete required paperwork accurately for deliveries, pick-ups, inspections, modifications, and service calls.
  • Provide courteous customer service over the phone and in person, clearly explaining repairs, services performed, and any identified damages.
  • Conduct HVAC system checks and perform basic maintenance in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Use a computer or smartphone to document work, manage tasks, and complete required reporting.
  • Follow all safety procedures and best practices while working indoors and outdoors with tools, equipment, and construction materials.
Essential Skills
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • At least 1 year of professional experience using a computer or smartphone.
  • Basic carpentry knowledge and hands-on carpentry experience.
  • Ability to perform general labor tasks including demolition, cleaning, and loading/unloading materials.
  • Capability to perform basic repairs in areas such as flooring, painting, and light construction.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with customers and team members in person and over the phone.
  • Willingness and physical ability to work both indoors and outdoors in a construction-focused setting.
  • Basic understanding of safety practices in a construction or shop environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with electrical work, plumbing, or welding is a plus.
  • Experience working with HVAC systems, including basic checks and maintenance, is beneficial.
  • Valid driver’s license is preferred.
  • Prior experience working with modular buildings, mobile office trailers, or similar structures is an advantage.
  • Experience maintaining inventory of tools, equipment, and parts.
  • Familiarity with reading or creating simple floor plan drawings.
  • Background in general construction, remodeling, or facilities maintenance is helpful.

Work Environment

The role is based in a construction-focused shop and yard environment that involves both indoor and outdoor work with mobile office trailers and modular buildings. Typical tasks include general cleaning, demolition, remodeling, and loading and unloading materials, often using hand and power tools, construction equipment, and material handling devices. The position follows a first-shift schedule, generally from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., providing a consistent daytime work routine. The environment is active and hands-on, with regular movement between the shop, yard, and trailers, and requires adherence to safety procedures and appropriate work attire suitable for construction and maintenance activities.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Shakopee, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
