This Highway Foreman position is located in the Webster Parish Minden Maintenance Unit and reports directly to the Parish Highway Maintenance Superintendent. The incumbent must have specialized knowledge in operating heavy equipment, as well as using computers and tablets, and will be responsible for operating this equipment safely. Knowledge of safe operation of passenger vehicles and other equipment used by Highway Foreman 1 positions is required. The position requires possession and maintenance of a valid Class A CDL. The incumbent will participate in required DOTD training and continuing education. This role requires the ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment in unforeseen situations, and perform minor repairs and routine maintenance on equipment and vehicles. The position involves operating heavy equipment to support the repair and maintenance of state and federal highway systems in Webster Parish.

Four years of experience in the construction, maintenance, or repair of roads, bridges, levees, drainage facilities, wharfs, buildings, or grounds; OR

Four years of experience in the operation or maintenance of industrial or heavy mobile equipment.

Job Duties:

  • Supervises a 5–6 member highway maintenance crew in the safe operation of heavy equipment and performance of road maintenance activities, including traffic control, pothole patching, drainage work, mowing, and construction tasks.
  • Coordinates daily work assignments, schedules maintenance and repairs with the Parish Highway Maintenance Superintendent, and supports crew training, evaluations, and performance management.
  • Assists with oversight of equipment maintenance and ensures accurate reporting and documentation of work activities, labor, equipment, and materials.
  • Addresses complaints and service requests from public officials, property owners, and the general public by taking appropriate corrective action.
  • Responds to emergencies on a 24-hour basis and serves in the absence of the Parish Highway Maintenance Superintendent as needed, including supporting disaster response efforts.

This position requires a Class "A" CDL before appointment.
