Job Duties:
Depending on assignment and experience level, Mobile Equipment Operators may:
Operate heavy and specialized equipment used in road and bridge maintenance
Assist with construction, repair, and upkeep of highways and bridges
Perform routine equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance
Support traffic control, cleanup, and emergency response activities
Perform physical tasks such as lifting, loading materials, and using hand and power tools
Assist or guide lower-level operators as needed
This role requires reliability, safety awareness, and the ability to adapt to changing work conditions.
Position-Specific Details:
Compensation:Below is the starting hourly rate for each level and Premium Pay amount for the Mobile Equipment Operator 1 and 2:
Mobile Equipment Operator 1 - Valid Class "D" Chauffeurs License Required---$16.06 hourly. Premium pay $1.00/hour for all hours worked. Additionally, a 10% base pay increase will be granted upon attainment of permanent status.
Mobile Equipment Operator 2 - Valid Class "A" Commercial Driver's License Required--$ 17.18 hourly. Premium pay $1.00/hour for all hours worked. Additionally, a 10% base pay increase will be granted upon attainment of permanent status.
Mobile Equipment Operator 1 Heavy - Valid Class "A" Commercial Driver's License Required --- $ 21.05 hourly.
Career Progression:This position may be filled as Mobile Equipment Operator 1, Mobile Equipment Operator 2, or Mobile Equipment Operator 1-Heavy, based on qualifications and agency needs.
Licensing Requirements: Certain levels may require a valid Louisiana Class “D” Chauffeur’s License or CDL prior to permanent appointment or start date, depending on assignment.
Appointment Type: This position may be filled as either a probational appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a promotion (open to all statewide classified and Agency-wide permanent status employees); or by detail to special duty.
