Mobile Equipment Operators help keep Louisiana’s roads and bridges safe by operating equipment to support maintenance and construction work.
This position offers a 10% base pay increase upon attainment of permanent status (where applicable). No experience is required — training is provided, with opportunities for career progression.
This is an outdoor, physically active role that may involve varying weather conditions, shift work, night work, overtime, travel, or emergency callouts depending on assignment.
Position is located in Pavement Marking Crew, District 03, Unit 774 and reports to the Highway Foreman.

Position-Specific Details:
This position is for a vacancy on the Pavement Marking Crew. Raised pavement marker (reflectors) installation is accomplished with a pickup truck and trailer. The trailer has a seat installed on it, on the driver’s side, situated approximately 12” from the roadway surface. A heated “glue” called bituminous is mechanically applied with a foot pedal and then the marker placed on the bituminous. This crew also installs pavement-marking legends, such as stop bars, arrows, ONLYs, crosswalks, etc. This is accomplished by using heated thermoplastic material that is installed on the pavement with a push-propelled cart. This crew also occasionally handles traffic control, road closures, lane closures, etc.
Compensation:Below is the starting hourly rate for each level and additional compensation information for the MEO 1 and MEO 2 levels:
MEO-1 $16.06 /hourly- receives Premium Pay of $1.00/hour for all hours worked. Additionally, a 10% base pay increase granted upon attainment of permanent status.
MEO-2 $17.18/hourly- receives Premium Pay of $1.00/hour for all hours worked. Additionally, a 10% base pay increase granted upon attainment of permanent status.
MEO-1/HEAVY $21.05/hourly
Career Progression:This position may be filled as Mobile Equipment Operator 1, Mobile Equipment Operator 2, or Mobile Equipment Operator 1-Heavy, based on qualifications and agency needs.
Licensing Requirements: Certain levels may require a valid Louisiana Class “D” Chauffeur’s License or CDL prior to permanent appointment or start date, depending on assignment.
Appointment Type: This position may be filled as either a probational appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a promotion (open to all statewide classified and Agency-wide permanent status employees); or by detail to special duty.
