SUMMARY

The Controller is responsible for ensuring all activity is accurately recorded in the financial statements, supervises the general ledger (GL) staff, and ensures compliance with the Nevada Gaming Control Board.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Directly supervise the GL and Revenue Audit teams.

• Perform all functions in accordance with Gaming Control Board, Federal and other laws and gaming regulations and other applicable GSR policies and procedures.

• Plan and monitor all accounting transactions, entertainment reconciliation, taxes, audits, internal controls, financial & statistical reporting, and general ledger reconciliations.

• Review and approve general ledger journal entries prepared by their staff for accuracy and ensure accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) as well as the GSR accounting policies and procedures.

• Prepare and analyze daily paperwork and reports; develop and implement recommendations for improved efficiency.

• Ensure timeliness of tax submissions, payments and all other required reporting to regulatory agencies.

• Ensure that the highest possible standards of guest service are provided; listen and respond to external and internal guests’ concerns and questions.

• Work with all levels of management, including executives, and consult with key business stakeholders.

• Work with internal audit, internal compliance, independent public accountants, and various regulatory agencies including the Nevada Gaming Control Board and Internal Revenue Service.

• Evaluate processes to improve efficiency that would result in cost savings and greater accuracy.

• Ensure adequate coverage for the accounting team; oversee the supervision of staff, including work allocation, scheduling, training and problem resolution.

• Contribute to departmental effectiveness by identifying short-term and long-range issues and goals, recommending courses of action, and implementing directives.

• Ensure compliance with internal controls for all departments, and administrative controls as related to team members, policies and procedures, NRS, regulations, MICS, and Written System of Internal Control.

• On a monthly basis, review month end journal entries and account reconciliations, participate in the process of reviewing preliminary financial statements and resolve any unknown or unexplained items.

• Liaison with IT to resolve any system problems related to systems used by the department.

• Conduct internal audits of data to ensure accuracy and integrity.

• Improve staff effectiveness by coaching, counseling, training and recommending disciplinary action for team members, and planning, delegating, monitoring, and appraising job tasks and results in a timely manner.

• Conduct annual department evaluation and assessments of department components and staff according to established policies, procedures, and regulations for the accounting team.

• Contribute to team effort and accomplish related results as required.

• Attend and satisfactorily complete all required training as assigned and required.

• Assist the Finance & Accounting Controller in accomplishing any company projects, goals or objectives.

• Any other duties as assigned within the scope of this position.


KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

• Knowledge of and ability to interpret and evaluate internal controls, as well as extensive experience in writing financial and internal control procedures including GAAP,

• Demonstrated ability to apply analytical reviews and ability to interpret significant data relationships.

• Previous experience with AS400 and Infinium or related accounting systems is preferable.

• Excellent communication skills, guest service and team oriented, self-starter, and professional maturity.

• Strong organization, analytical, and problem-solving skills, and ability to exhibit composure and professionalism while under pressure.

• Time management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment while meeting constant deadlines and maintaining strong attention to details.

• Ability to work independently with little to no supervision.

• Must be able to perform in a team environment.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Products: Project, Word, Excel, Power Point, Publisher and Outlook.

• Ability of complex reading, writing, math, and task completion skills is required.

• Must have the following skills: clerical, compiling, coordination, analyzing, instructing, following instructions, influencing others, problem solving, independent judgment, and decision making.

• Flexible to work all shifts including holidays, nights, and weekend hours as business needs dictate.

• Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• Degree in Accounting or Finance is required.

• Three years’ casino accounting and audit experience is preferred, or any combination of education, training, or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.


CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES

• Must be able to maintain appropriate Gaming License & Alcohol Awareness card.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• While performing the duties of this job, the team member is constantly sitting and occasionally standing, walking, reaching overhead, and bending over during the duration of their shift.

• Must be able to occasionally lift/carry 25lbs or less.

• The team member will constantly have repetitive use of both hands and require occasional light grasping motions. Finger dexterity of both hands will be constantly required.

• Constant use of vision abilities is required including distance, depth perception, field of vision, and color vision.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Work performed indoors, alone and frequently with and around others. Team Member will perform work face-to-face including verbal contact with others on extended shifts around computer equipment.

• The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

• Team Member may be exposed to secondhand smoke.
