About 1787 Legal Group

1787 Legal Group is an Arizona‑licensed Alternative Business Structure (ABS) law firm operating at the intersection of law and capital. We partner with investors and affiliated firms across the U.S. to deliver high‑quality civil litigation services through a scalable, technology‑driven model. As we build a national platform through strategic partnerships and a roll‑up structure, we are investing heavily in the core litigation team that will support this growth.

The Role

We are hiring a Corporate Litigation Counsel who will play a dual role: hands‑on litigation counsel and key leader in building our litigation team. You will manage complex civil matters from pre‑suit through resolution while serving as an intricate, day‑to‑day leader for the growing group of attorneys and staff around you.

If you enjoy being in the details of cases and also want a real say in how a litigation department is built, resourced, and run, this role is designed for you.

What You Will Do

  • Manage a portfolio of civil litigation matters from investigation through mediation, arbitration, or trial, including strategy, research, discovery, and motion practice.
  • Act as a working lead for the litigation team: coordinating assignments, reviewing work product, and helping less‑experienced attorneys execute at a high level.
  • Partner with firm leadership to help build the litigation function; contributing to hiring decisions, process design, and the development of playbooks and standards.
  • Conduct legal research and draft clear, strategic memoranda on key legal issues and case evaluations.
  • Lead and manage written and documentary discovery, including drafting and responding to discovery, overseeing document review, and preparing witnesses.
  • Draft and argue motions, responses, and other court filings as appropriate, in coordination with other counsel.
  • Maintain strong communication with clients, opposing counsel, experts, and other stakeholders, ensuring a professional and predictable client experience.
  • Maintain disciplined case management practices, including file organization, deadline tracking, and adherence to court rules and internal procedures.

What You Bring

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in the Arizona bar (or a clear path to obtaining AZ admission in the near term); additional bar admissions are a plus.
  • Solid civil litigation experience, ideally including direct involvement in arbitrations and/or trials.
  • Demonstrated strength in legal research, writing, discovery, and motion practice across commercial or other complex civil matters.
  • Strong organization and the ability to manage multiple active files in a dynamic, growing environment.
  • A collaborative, “team captain” mindset, you like leading from the front while helping others grow and succeed.

This role is a strong fit for someone who may currently be a senior associate, counsel, or junior partner looking for more leadership responsibility and a pathway to ownership.

How You'll Be Compensated

We are structuring compensation to reflect both your contributions as litigation counsel and your impact on building the team. The package includes:

  • Base salary of 200,000 per year
  • Quarterly bonus opportunity tied to individual and team performance
  • Equity ownership participation in the 1787 Legal Group platform, aligned with the growth of our national roll‑up strategy

Why Join Now

You will get exposure to a range of matters and markets across our growing platform, with centralized operational support and a leadership team committed to investing in the litigation function.
