The Law Office of Gress, Clark, Young, and Schoepper, a workers’ compensation defense firm located in Beaverton, Oregon, is looking for an associate to assist in the representation of employers in Washington workers’ compensation cases. Workers’ compensation experience is not required. This may be an entry level position for the right attorney who is coachable and has good judgment. Initial duties will include supporting firm partners by assisting with legal research, brief writing, medical record and surveillance review, discovery, and correspondence drafting with progressive responsibilities over time involving litigation and direct client communication based on the associate’s development progress and career goals. Must be licensed to practice in Oregon and Washington or eligible to apply for bar membership through reciprocity or transfer of recent bar scores.


Job Type: Full-Time Salary


Pay: $90,000 to $125,000 annually, plus bonuses

Qualifications

  • Strong foundation in Law and demonstrated interest or experience in Labor and Employment Law, preferably with exposure to workers’ compensation matters.
  • Ability to provide clear, practical Legal Advice to employers, insurers, and third-party administrators, with sound judgment and client-focused solutions.
  • Excellent Research skills, including statutory, regulatory, and case law analysis, and the ability to translate findings into persuasive written work.
  • Effective Negotiation skills for settlements, mediations, and informal dispute resolution, with a focus on strategic, cost-effective outcomes.
  • Licensed and in good standing with at least one state bar; Oregon and/or Washington bar admission (or eligibility to obtain promptly) strongly preferred.
  • Superior written and oral advocacy skills, including experience drafting briefs, pleadings, and opinions, and presenting arguments in hearings or similar forums.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfort working in a hybrid environment, collaborating with colleagues and clients both in person and remotely, and using standard legal and office technology tools.
  • Commitment to ethical practice, professionalism, and respectful, inclusive interaction with colleagues, clients, and opposing parties.
