We are seeking experienced, motivated Agile Coaches to help us advance and scale our Agile transformation. Working with Scrum Teams, and Product teams, to adopt new ways of thinking, and adapt the way they work, this role will be required to collaborate across a complex, matrixed organization. The Coach(es) will partner with business and technology partners to foster adoption of Wells Fargo Agile, introducing scalable practices which result in sustainable change.  A ‘roll-up your sleeves’ position, the successful candidates will be actively coaching Scrum Teams, partnering with Managers, and fostering change, leveraging an inspect and adapt mindset to help us continually improve and evolve our transformation implementation model. 

Primary responsibilities:

Responsible for establishing disciplined, effective Agile teams which embrace and exhibit the agile mindset, by instructing the team in agile principles and practices. Conducts new team workshops in partnership with other Agile coaches. Responsible for guiding teams on the first principle of Agile coaching to deliver working software.  Initially guides teams through standard and specialized daily activities, with intention of upskilling the Scrum Master/team, and transferring accountability over initial sprints (model, coach, and empower). Coaches to positively reinforce an Agile mindset, practices, and skills to teams and individuals; provides clarity, new learnings, and fosters maturation. Proactively mentors Scrum Masters and Product Owners to enable innovative servant leadership and empowerment of teams; effectively coaches in conflict resolution, and successfully coaches both new and problematic teams to sustainable performance. Offers credible alternative options regarding process initiation, work structuring, utilization of value streams, and cultivation of iterative development along with continuous integration and deployments.  Facilitates initial communication/ collaboration within and between teams to help align program goals to deliver final product, with a goal of a self-sustaining team. Proactively coaches teams in understanding and use of generally accepted Agile metrics, and a strategic perspective to demonstrate value of empiricism in enabling planning, continuous improvement, and thoughtful data driven decisions. 

What this looks like…

  • Facilitate the learning and adoption of Agile principles and practices with teams, and managers, as they gain insights and experience with Agile methods and practices.
  • Ask open and thoughtful questions, which help people rethink and change the way they structure work: utilize value streams, influence and encourage continuous value delivery, cultivate iterative application development, QA, and project management. 
  • Guide transformational change with managers, programs, and team levels, in a large matrixed organization, helping them see broader perspectives, and shift mindset to adopt new skills associated with self-governing teams.
  • Mentor new Scrum Masters and teams on best in class Agile practices; coach technology and business in innovative ways to resolve issues inherent in application of the Agile methodology.
  • Provide strategic thought leadership to resolve impediments, and accelerate delivery, through active participation in forums and communities of practice.
  • Guide teams in tracking and monitoring of metrics and reporting to facilitate inspect and adapt. 
  • Utilize maturity assessments to provide coaching and input to reach higher levels of team maturity. 
  • Ensure teams understand the need to meet all compliance, risk, and regulatory requirements.
  • Enable tool adoption and continuous delivery practices and tools.
  • Guide teams to develop standards for teams’ Definition of Done and Definition of Ready that include proper automation, testing practices, Non-Functional Requirements (NFR’s), Security, etc.
  • Help build strong teams focusing on cross-functional teams and ability to self-manage
  • Develop well-articulated written and oral communications content (e.g., emails, presentation materials, etc.,) demonstrating a keen understanding and applying the appropriate level of detail dependent upon stakeholders
  • Collaborate with peers and partners to share, and evolve, best practices 
  • Ability to create and leverage sound coaching plans; Coach with proactive intent, with a view toward outcomes, and a clear definition of done.

  • Agile domain proficiency (team, business, training, technical, scale, etc.,)
  • Demonstrated ability to develop collaborative and cooperative working relationships with multiple levels of managers, building awareness and generating interest in agile approach and its associated continuous delivery implications
  • Understanding of how to effectively partner/ collaborate with key stakeholders to mature the acceptance of accelerated delivery 
  • Prior experience creating safe space / container for teams to fail fast, learn, and evolve with support and recognition of achievements
  • Ability to develop, deliver and mentor effective, well-articulated, written and oral communications (e.g., emails, presentation materials) applying appropriate level of content/ detail dependent upon audience and intent. 
  • Demonstrated use of sound coaching plans to address team and individual needs; embodies effective teaching/ mentoring / coaching skills, demonstrating ability to coach in the moment 
  • Demonstrated reasonable level of technical and business understanding to optimize credibility with teams and managers 
  • Demonstrates affinity towards continuous learning
  • Demonstrated skill to coach integration of policy and regulatory matters 
  • Industry recognized Agile Certification and/or 1+ years of focused Agile Coaching experience
  • Intermediate+ experience with JIRA and Confluence
  • 3+ years previously working as an active ScrumMaster and/or Kanban
  • 2+ years previously working as an active Agile Coach
  • Scaled Agile (SAFe, Scrum at Scale, LESS) experience
  • 5+ years’ experience in software delivery

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of Agile experience on an Agile team (i.e. Product Owner, Scrum Master)
  • 4+ years of leadership experience
