The Washington Examiner seeks a versatile, driven, and technically skilled Videographer to join our newsroom team. The videographer will report to the Director of Video and Streaming. In this role, you will be responsible for capturing high-quality video, supporting field production, and performing other tasks related to shooting news video. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who excels in fast-paced environments, possesses strong technical troubleshooting skills, and can collaborate seamlessly with reporters, producers, and directors to deliver impactful news coverage.


Hours: Monday - Friday, hours vary

Location: Hybrid (Office location Washington DC - successful candidate, however, should be based in the Washington DC/DMV area)


Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Shoot general assignment stories, live shots, and natural sound (nat) packages. Safely operate ENG news vehicles to cover breaking news and scheduled events.
  • Manage news feed routing and ingest systems, and support studio production as needed.
  • Demonstrate a strong working knowledge of video, audio, and lighting fundamentals to ensure high production value.
  • Work independently in the field or collaboratively within a fast-paced production team; take and give clear direction during high-pressure shoots.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2–5 years of professional shooting experience in a broadcast, newsroom, or production environment.
  • Degree in Journalism, Broadcasting, Communications, or a related field preferred.
  • Solid technical knowledge of professional photo/video equipment, audio, and lighting fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with news feed routing and ingest systems is highly preferred.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with technical gear.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move production equipment weighing 25–50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time while operating technical equipment.
  • Flexibility to work non-traditional hours, including nights, weekends, early mornings, and breaking news shifts.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, composure, and sharp attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills.
