As a member of the program team, the SUMMER PROGRAMS AND OUTDOOR RECREATION INTERN will assis t with recreational programs, community engagemen t, and special events in Boston Harbor Islands National & State Park and on the Boston Harbor walk. BHN works with public and private partner s to increase people’ s awareness of and access to park s and public spaces on Boston Harbor through programming , communic ations, and engagemen t. The organization serves as the legisla ted non-pr ofit partner of the Boston Harbor Islands National and State Park and the city's partner for the Boston Harbor walk and Moakle y Park. Curr ent priority projects include the Stone Living Lab, focused on finding nature-based solutions to sea-le vel rise, and Harbor walk 2.0, a frame work for impr oving waterfront developmen t on Boston Harbor as well as imagining a bolder vision for the waterfront and islands. Harbor walk 2.0 goes beyond existing regula tions in anticipa tion of building a more equit ably and accessible waterfront that is prepar ed for the coastal impacts of clima te chang e. Finally , BHN is focused on impr oving Community Engagemen t at Moakle y Park and projects around Boston Harbor to create a more welcoming and inclusiv e Harbor . For more informa tion about Boston Harbor Now, please visit: www.bostonharborno w.org About the Position This summer , Boston Harbor Now seek s a motiv ated and ener getic intern to assis t with recreational programs and special events in Boston Harbor Islands National & State Park. Taking direction from the Director of Programs, this intern will help facilit ate an ongoing series of enriching public programs. This is a hybrid position, but man y duties take place outdoor s within the Park and around the mainland waterfront. The programs intern will assis t in the organizing , execution, and monit oring of Boston Harbor Now’s robus t programming calendar . This is a seasonal position from June through September (13 weeks). The position requir es a flexible work schedule including weekends and some evenings. The typic al work week is Tuesda y through Saturday, but will vary. Responsibilities ● Working outdoor s on the Islands and waterfront park s with a diverse audience of families and community groups visiting the park o Welcoming people o Encouraging belonging and place-making o Conducting work with professionalism and compassion for everyone encountered ● Assis ting with planning and implemen ting larger special events such as Free Ferry Days, Jazz on the Porch, Camp Spect acle, Tall Ship s, and Spect acle Summer Nigh ts ● Leading games, arts and crafts, and other play activities for childr en and families ● Ability to articula te Boston Harbor Now’s mission and primar y partner ships during interactions with vendor s, partner staff, and the public ● Other duties in the office and in the park as needed, such as: o Supporting the impr ovemen t of program or event manag emen t tools o Supporting programs with a focus on data collection and analy sis o Supporting partner s and providing customer service by connecting via email and phone o Assis ting in adminis trative duties as needed Qualifications and Experience Belo w lists the qualific ations for this position. All creden tials and experience, both formal and informal, will be consider ed: ● Experience and/ or interest in event planning , creative placemaking , community activ ation, and/ or the nonpr ofit sector ● Experience with or willingness to learn Google Suite (including Gmail, Docs, Shee ts, Drive, and Calendar) for appoin tmen t managing , documen t sharing , and digit al collabor ation 2 Position Description: SUMMER PROGRAMS AND OUTDOOR RECREATION INTERN, Boston Harbor Now ● Is comfortable lifting equipmen t (up to 30 pounds) and is willing to work outdoor s in various weather conditions, including heat and rain ● Is organized and consis tently timely ● Has a strong work ethic, is good at taking direction, and is able to work with minimal super vision The ideal candidate: Belo w lists examples of the preferred skill set of the ideal candida te.
