As a member of the program team, the SUMMER ACCESS PROGRAMS INTERN will assis t with community engagemen t and special events in Boston Harbor Islands National & State Park and on the Boston Harbor walk. BHN works with public and private partner s to increase people’ s awareness of and access to park s and public spaces on Boston Harbor through programming , communic ations, and engagemen t. The organization serves as the legisla ted non-pr ofit partner of the Boston Harbor Islands National and State Park and the city's partner for the Boston Harbor walk and Moakle y Park. Curr ent priority projects include the Stone Living Lab, focused on finding nature-based solutions to sea-le vel rise, and Harbor walk 2.0, a frame work for impr oving waterfront developmen t on Boston Harbor as well as imagining a bolder vision for the waterfront and islands. Harbor walk 2.0 goes beyond existing regula tions in anticipa tion of building a more equit ably and accessible waterfront that is prepar ed for the coastal impacts of clima te chang e. Finally , BHN is focused on impr oving Community Engagemen t at Moakle y Park and projects around Boston Harbor to create a more welcoming and inclusiv e Harbor . For more informa tion about Boston Harbor Now, please visit: www.bostonharborno w.org About the Position This summer , Boston Harbor Now seek s a motiv ated and community -orien ted intern to support programs that expand equit able access to Boston Harbor and the Harbor Islands. Working closely with the Community Engagemen t Manag er, the Access Intern will help implemen t key access initia tives, including Community Cruises, Island Pass, Free Ferry Days, and Summer Nigh ts at Carson Beach . The Access Intern will assis t with outr each, logis tics, and on-sit e support to help reduce barrier s to participa tion and ensur e welcoming experiences for communities across Greater Boston. Responsibilities may include coordina ting participan t registration and communic ation, supporting transport ation and ferry logis tics, engaging community partner s, assis ting with event setup and breakdown, collecting participan t feedback, and helping monit or participa tion data to inform futur e access efforts. This role is ideal for someone interested in environmen tal justice, public space activ ation, and community engagemen t. Man y responsibilities take place outdoor s on the waterfront, at Carson Beach, and on the Boston Harbor Islands, with some hybrid adminis trative work. This is a seasonal position from June through September (13 weeks). The position requir es a flexible work schedule including weekends and some evenings. The typic al work week is Tuesda y through Saturday, but will vary. Responsibilities ● Support access programs including Community Cruises, Island Pass, Free Ferry Days, and Summer Nigh ts at Carson Beach ● Work outdoor s on the Harbor Islands and waterfront park s with families, youth groups, and community partner s ● Welcome participan ts and help create a friendly , inclusiv e, and accessible environmen t ● Assis t with event setup, breakdown, check -in, and on-sit e logis tics ● Help manag e supplies and confirm details with vendor s and partner s ● Support participan t registration and track attendance ● Collect participan t feedback and assis t with basic data entry and evalua tion to help measur e program impact ● Work with the Communic ations team to shar e program informa tion and upda tes Coor dina te with Oper ations to ensur e events run smoothly ● Support adminis trative tasks such as organizing documen ts, assis ting with contracts and paymen ts, and main taining program records ● Represen t Boston Harbor Now’s mission and partner ships in a professional and positiv e manner 2 Position Description: SUMMER ACCESS PROGRAMS INTERN, Boston Harbor Now Qualifications and Experience Belo w lists the requir ed qualific ations for this position. All creden tials and experience, both formal and informal, will be consider ed: ● Interest in community engagemen t, public programming , environmen tal justice, nonpr ofit manag emen t, park s and recreation, or a related field ● Experience with or willingness to learn Google Suite (including Gmail, Docs, Shee ts, Drive, and Calendar) for appoin tmen t managing , documen t sharing , and digit al collabor ation ● Problem-solving skills and ability to presen t possible solutions to super visor ● Is comfortable lifting equipmen t (up to 30 pounds) and is willing to work outdoor s in various weather conditions, including heat and rain ● Ability to work evenings and weekends as requir ed ● Willingness to assis t with data collection, registration tracking , and basic evalua tion tasks The ideal candidate: Belo w lists examples of the preferred skill set of the ideal candida te.
