Job Title: Structural Welder
Job Description

This role offers the opportunity to perform high-quality structural welding in a production shop environment, using MIG and flux-core processes across multiple positions. You will interpret blueprints, plan layouts, and produce precise welds on carbon steel plate while meeting safety, quality, and productivity standards.

Responsibilities

  • Weld structural components proficiently using MIG and flux-core processes in vertical (3G), overhead, and horizontal positions.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and measurements to plan layouts and welding procedures accurately.
  • Use tape measures, calipers, rulers, and other measuring tools to verify dimensions and align components according to specifications.
  • Determine the appropriate welding equipment settings and methods based on job requirements, including selecting and setting amperage and voltage on welding machines.
  • Set up components for welding, including cutting material with powered saws to match required measurements.
  • Operate angle grinders and other tools to prepare parts that must be welded, including cleaning, beveling, and smoothing surfaces.
  • Align and clamp components securely to ensure correct fit-up and alignment before welding.
  • Perform welds on carbon steel plate, including passing a 3G MIG test on 3/8" plate and a 4G MIG test on 1/4" plate, demonstrating clean starts and stops.
  • Grind welds as needed to meet quality, appearance, and specification requirements.
  • Test and inspect welded surfaces and structures to identify flaws, discontinuities, or defects and correct them as required.
  • Maintain welding machines, tools, and equipment in safe working condition and report any issues promptly.
  • Follow all safety procedures and shop guidelines to maintain a safe and efficient work area.
  • Work in a production environment, meeting established output, quality, and schedule expectations.
Essential Skills
  • Proficient MIG welding skills, including experience with flux-core processes.
  • Ability to weld in 3G (vertical) position and pass a 3G MIG test on 3/8" carbon steel plate.
  • Ability to weld in 4G position and pass a 4G MIG test on 1/4" carbon steel plate, with clean and consistent starts and stops.
  • Capability to weld effectively in vertical, overhead, and horizontal positions.
  • At least 1 year of welding experience in a structural welding shop or similar production environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and welding symbols.
  • Strong measurement skills, including reading tape measures and using calipers and rulers accurately.
  • Knowledge of setting and adjusting amperage and voltage on welding machines based on material and weld requirements.
  • Experience using angle grinders and other fabrication tools to prepare and finish welds.
  • Ability to align, clamp, and fit components accurately prior to welding.
  • Understanding of basic weld inspection practices to identify flaws and defects.
  • Commitment to maintaining equipment in safe operating condition and following safety procedures.

Work Environment

This position is based in a structural welding and fabrication shop operating on a first-shift schedule, typically from 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. You will work in a production environment using MIG welding machines, flux-core processes, powered saws, angle grinders, and standard measuring tools such as tape measures, calipers, and rulers. The role involves standing for extended periods, handling steel components, and working around fabrication equipment and shop noise while following all safety protocols and wearing appropriate protective gear.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tulsa, OK.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $24.00/hr.
