Job Description

This role offers the opportunity to use your welding and metal fabrication skills every day in a modern production environment. You will work on a wide variety of products, including tillage equipment, storage tanks, fertilizer spreaders, HVAC equipment for ethanol plants, and other custom metal components. Because the product mix changes frequently, you can expect variety in your work from week to week while contributing to high-quality, large-scale projects.

Responsibilities

  • Perform MIG welding on agricultural and industrial equipment using primarily wirefeed processes.
  • Read and interpret blueprints or learn to do so in order to lay out and assemble products accurately.
  • Work closely with other welders and team leads to complete projects efficiently and on schedule.
  • Fabricate and prepare materials, including cleaning and finishing welds using grinders and other hand tools.
  • Operate overhead cranes as needed to move and position products safely during fabrication and assembly.
  • Use tape measures, layout tools, and other shop equipment to ensure precise measurements and structural alignment.
  • Communicate with other departments to maintain smooth and efficient product flow through the facility.
  • Assist with training and supporting new hires once you are comfortable in the role and processes.
  • Follow shop safety practices when working with welders, grinders, press brakes, and other equipment.
  • Contribute to maintaining a clean, organized, and collaborative shop environment.

Essential Skills

  • Prior welding experience or welding education in a production or shop setting.
  • Proficiency with MIG welding and wirefeed welding processes.
  • Ability to set up and adjust welding machines for different materials and weld types.
  • Experience with basic metal fabrication, including grinding and finishing welds.
  • Ability to use hand tools such as grinders, tape measures, and other common shop tools.
  • Comfort working with agricultural or structural metal products and sheet metal components.
  • Basic understanding of shop safety practices when using welding and fabrication equipment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Blueprint reading and layout experience, strongly preferred but not mandatory.
  • Familiarity with press brake operations and general metal fabrication processes.
  • Experience with flux core welding is a plus.
  • Exposure to farming or agricultural equipment is beneficial.
  • Experience in shop class or formal metal fabrication training is an asset.
  • Experience using Miller, Lincoln Electric, ESAB, or Fronius welding equipment is helpful.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and support coworkers as needed.

Why Work Here?

You will work in a nearly new facility that combines the comfort and organization of a modern shop with the camaraderie and flexibility of a smaller operation. The culture is laid back, supportive, and team-focused, with coworkers who are willing to help each other succeed. The constant variety of projects keeps the work interesting and offers ongoing opportunities to expand your skills. Consistent hours and steady workload provide stability while still allowing for an engaging and dynamic day-to-day experience.

Work Environment

The role is based in a production shop that is approximately two years old, offering a clean, well-organized, and modern workspace. The atmosphere is laid back and has a small-shop feel, even while handling large-scale projects and equipment. Employees generally work Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with occasional half-day Fridays, and current workload typically provides around 50 hours per week. The temperature in the shop is usually comfortable, even during hotter weeks. You will work with MIG and wirefeed welders, grinders, hand tools, overhead cranes, and other fabrication equipment, including brands such as Miller, Lincoln Electric, ESAB, and Fronius. Team members collaborate closely and are known for being helpful and supportive, creating a cooperative and respectful work environment.
