Staff Accountant

SUMMARY

The Staff Accountant will perform accounting and financial reporting functions for all Garcia companies and related individuals and will assist with special projects as needed. The ideal candidate has strong analytical skills and a solid understanding of accounting principles.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Utilize accounting software to record, store, and analyze information for multiple entities
• Verify accuracy of financial data (by company, account, and cost center) within the accounting system
• Complete periodic closing procedures and post journal entries as necessary
• Maintain all necessary work papers and source documentation in an audit-ready format to support financial statement and tax return positions
• Prepare all financial reports (tax-basis financial statements, cash flow reports, budgets, budget-to-actuals, market value statements, etc.) for assigned companies
• Compile personal financial statements for key individuals
• Research accounting issues as needed
• Perform other duties as assigned

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or higher (or equivalent experience)
• 2+ years of accounting experience including preparation of financial statements
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
• Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills
• Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize among competing responsibilities
• Sound judgement and decision-making ability
• Highest degree of integrity and confidentiality
• Professional and courteous demeanor

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS DESIRED (NOT REQUIRED)

• Public accounting experience
• Basic knowledge of federal income taxation principles and book-to-tax adjustments

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
• Ability to lift up to 10 pounds at times
