ROLE: Staff Accountant

LOCATION: Los Angeles, CA (near Downtown Los Angeles)

WORK STATUS: Contract‑to‑Hire

WORK SITE STATUS: Hybrid schedule – in office Tuesdays and Thursdays

PAY RANGE: Upon conversion, up to $75,000/year to $80,000/year. While temping, approximately $36.06-$38.47/hour.


JOB DESCRIPTION

Our client, a mission‑driven organization based in Los Angeles, is seeking an experienced Staff Accountant to support the Accounting Department during a period of growth. This is a high‑visibility role reporting directly to the Accounting Manager and will be responsible for core accounting functions including accounts payable oversight, month‑end close, reconciliations, and audit support.

The ideal candidate will come from a public accounting background, bring strong technical fundamentals, and possess the interpersonal skills to collaborate across departments in a multi‑location environment.


RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE STAFF ACCOUNTANT

General Accounting & Close

  • Prepare and post journal entries.
  • Perform month‑end close activities.
  • Record accruals and amortization of prepaids and insurance.
  • Accrue expenses and reconcile balance sheet accounts.
  • Investigate and follow up on variances.

Accounts Payable Oversight

  • Supervise the Accounts Payable Specialist.
  • Oversee check runs and A/P processing.
  • Ensure accuracy and proper coding of expenses.

Reconciliations & Analysis

  • Perform high‑level account reconciliations.
  • Support multi‑location accounting across approximately nine locations.
  • Allocate expenses across programs and sites.
  • Ensure transactions are coded correctly by program and location.

Special Projects & Audit Support

  • Manage and reconcile gift card accounts and follow up with internal users.
  • Assist with audit preparation and respond to audit requests.

Miscellaneous

  • Participate in special projects and process improvements as assigned by management.


REQUIREMENTS OF THE STAFF ACCOUNTANT

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or related major.
  • Background in public accounting.
  • Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and month‑end close.

Preferred

  • Experience auditing non-profits.
  • Exposure to multi‑location or multi‑program accounting.
