Senior Property Accountant

Carolina PRG is partnering with a growing organization to identify a Senior Property Accountant. This role will be responsible for overseeing the full cycle accounting process for a portfolio of properties, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and supporting operational and strategic initiatives.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage full cycle accounting for a portfolio of commercial or residential properties
  • Prepare and review monthly financial statements, variance analyses, and supporting schedules
  • Ensure accuracy of general ledger activity, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations
  • Maintain property level budgets and assist with forecasting activities
  • Partner with property management teams to review financial performance and resolve discrepancies
  • Lead the month end close process for assigned properties, ensuring timelines are met
  • Reconcile bank accounts, balance sheet accounts, and tenant ledgers
  • Analyze variances and provide clear explanations to leadership
  • Review and interpret lease agreements to ensure proper revenue recognition
  • Manage CAM reconciliations, rent escalations, and tenant billings
  • Partner with operations to ensure accuracy of tenant data and billing structures
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and accounting standards
  • Support audit requests and provide necessary documentation
  • Maintain organized and accurate financial records
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve reporting efficiency
  • Collaborate cross functionally with asset management, operations, and leadership teams
  • Assist with system implementations or enhancements as needed


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 3 to 6+ years of property accounting or real estate accounting experience
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting
  • Experience with Yardi, MRI, or similar property management systems preferred
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
