The Senior Director, Nursing Business Operations provides strategic leadership for financial allocation and planning, cost management and data analytics as a shared service across all care regions. The scope includes leadership over the CHW resource center and float pools, and hospital supervisors, and central staffing office function. This role serves as consultant and overseer of nursing labor workforce support and analysis for all regional locations. The Senior Director provides leadership to nursing units for financial planning of human resources, budget analysis, productivity, and development and execution of business plans for current and future business ventures. This role collaborates closely with the CNEs and CNOs for nursing resource management, with system Finance to align nursing financial plans with that of the organization, and with Human Resources and Compensation on workforce strategies and analysis. This role serves as director for process improvement initiatives as well as project management within the hospital group nursing enterprise.

Essential Functions

  • Collaborates with Chief Nurse Executives and their nursing leadership teams across all care delivery regions on nursing strategies and operations, supporting harmonization where appropriate while considering local needs. Successfully navigates matrixed relationships and alignment with corporate and shared service functions to drive optimal results.

  • Provides guidance and expertise on business strategies and tactics for inpatient Nursing including financial reporting and analysis, productivity monitoring, benchmarking, workforce analytics, profitability analysis, billing and revenue management issues, reimbursement, and outside business ventures.

  • Develops, implements, and assists with the administration of business management and policy of Nursing services across all care regions ; assists in developing and implementing workforce strategic plans, including significant change management and project analysis and evaluation.

  • Develops, implements, and assists with the administration of the Spectrum Health Grand Rapids Resource Center, System Corewell Health West Float pool, and Hospital Supervisors/resource centers including plans for staffing and resource allocation to meet productivity targets and patient care needs. Reviews current operations and develops strategic plan for process improvements, increases in efficiency and expense reduction.

  • Plans, prepares, implements, monitors and controls capital and operating budgets; oversees variance analysis and investigates reasons for major variances, develops and presents potential solutions and opportunities for operational efficiencies.

  • Serves as liaison between Finance, Supply Chain, Revenue Cycle, Legal, HR, Compensation and Clinical Operations in communication of financial issues, policies, and objectives; ensuring proper interpretation, coordination and development of organizational based financial system and information requirements, developing and reviewing contractual arrangements, and participating in the due diligence of acquisitions or services.

  • Ensures that processes and services are continuously monitored for quality, cost effectiveness, and efficiency. Engages in process and quality improvement activities. Makes and implements recommendations to improve operational efficiency and to implement new services for areas of responsibility.

  • Engages in continuous study of the entire professional field, including best practices, to maintain the professional competence, knowledge, and skills necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities. Completes required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree Business, Finance, Healthcare, Nursing or related field. Required

  • Master's Degree in nursing, healthcare administration, or in related field. Preferred

  • 10 years of relevant experience Healthcare administrative leadership role within an organization with comparable size and complexity to Corewell Health. Required

  • 3 years of relevant experience direct nursing experience. Preferred

  • LIC-Registered Nurse (RN) - State of Michigan. Preferred

  • Requires strong business acumen and working knowledge of financial planning processes and analysis, third party payor reimbursement concepts, budget development, business contracts, operations analysis, billing functions, and management principles.
