Senior Cost Analyst

We are partnering with a well-established advanced manufacturing organization in the Greater Boston area that is seeking a Senior Cost Analyst to join its operations finance team. This is a highly visible, hands-on role supporting a complex production environment, with direct impact on cost accuracy, inventory valuation, and financial performance.

This position is ideal for someone with a strong background in manufacturing cost accounting who enjoys working cross-functionally with operations and taking ownership of core costing processes.


Key Responsibilities

  • Own and maintain standard costing across materials, labor, overhead, and outside processing
  • Manage inventory valuation and controls, including cycle counts, physical inventory, and reconciliation
  • Perform monthly financial close activities, including WIP valuation, variance analysis, and inventory adjustments
  • Analyze manufacturing variances (materials, labor, overhead, yield) and partner with operations to identify root causes
  • Support internal reporting related to cost, margins, and operational performance
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and audit requirements, including inventory and transaction accuracy
  • Assist with forecasting and cost modeling to support business decisions
  • Utilize ERP system tools (SAP required) for reporting, analysis, and process improvements
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and workflows within cost accounting processes


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • ~7–12+ years of experience in cost accounting within a manufacturing environment
  • Strong experience with standard costing systems and inventory accounting
  • Hands-on experience with ERP systems (SAP experience required), including:
  • Financial modules (e.g., general ledger, cost centers)
  • Inventory/materials management
  • Proven experience with:
  • Inventory and WIP valuation
  • Month-end close processes
  • Variance analysis and cost reporting
  • Familiarity with internal controls, audits, or SOX environments
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with cross-functional teams
