Robotics Software Engineer – Autonomous Systems & Field Deployment

SR2 is supporting an innovative, venture-backed autonomous systems company that is building the next generation of scalable robotics and defence technology.


We're looking for an experienced Robotics Software Engineer who enjoys working across both deep technical development and real-world deployment. This is an opportunity to help deliver cutting-edge autonomous aerial systems while working closely with engineering teams, customers, and field operators.


What you'll be doing

  • Design and develop autonomy software for advanced aerial robotic platforms
  • Build navigation, mapping, localisation and decision-making systems
  • Develop production-grade software using C++ and Python
  • Implement sensor fusion, perception and real-time control algorithms
  • Integrate perception, planning and control systems into operational platforms
  • Support field deployments, demonstrations and pilot programmes
  • Work directly with stakeholders to understand operational requirements
  • Troubleshoot and optimise robotic systems in live environments
  • Translate field feedback into product enhancements and future roadmap priorities
  • Contribute to software quality, reliability, security and maintainability standards
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary hardware and software engineering teams


What we're looking for

  • 5+ years' experience developing robotics or autonomy software
  • Strong commercial experience with C++ and Python
  • Hands-on experience with ROS and autonomous robotic systems
  • Experience with aerial platforms and flight controllers such as PX4 or Ardupilot
  • Knowledge of SLAM, localisation, path planning, sensor fusion, perception or computer vision
  • Ability to operate effectively in fast-moving, deployment-focused environments
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or similar discipline

  • CI/CD, containerisation and broader DevOps practices
  • Machine learning applied to robotics
  • Hardware integration and rapid prototyping experience
  • Control systems and kinematics knowledge
  • Defence, military or high-security environment experience
  • Active security clearance
