Job Description:

Insight Global is seeking a Controls Engineer – Welding & Automation to support the development of an advanced automated fabrication factory for a top energy and manufacturing client. This engineer will focus on designing and integrating controls systems for automated welding and fabrication, with an emphasis on precision, repeatability, and distortion control. The ideal candidate brings deep automation expertise, experience supporting complex manufacturing systems, and the ability to collaborate across controls, CAD, and factory design teams to enable scalable, production‑ready automation solutions.

Day‑to‑Day:

  • Design and support controls systems for automated welding and fabrication operations
  • Develop strategies to control distortion, tolerances, and fixturing in welded structures
  • Collaborate with CAD and factory design teams to ensure automation feasibility
  • Support integration of vendor‑supplied automation equipment into the factory environment
  • Partner with manufacturing and engineering teams to ensure reliable, repeatable automation performance

Must‑Haves:

  • 10+ years of experience with industrial automation and controls systems
  • Hands‑on experience with robotic welding, CNC machining, or automated assembly lines
  • Exposure to welding automation and fabrication controls in a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing systems and system integration
  • Ability to support automation in precision, repeatability‑driven environments

Plusses:

  • Automotive manufacturing experience, especially robotic welding or body‑in‑white
  • Heavy industrial automation background
  • Aerospace welding experience with large metallic structures
