The Retirement Benefits Assistant Administrator supervises three subordinate managers who supervise, directly and indirectly, a total of thirty-eight full-time employees. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit as primary deputy to the Retirement Benefits Administrator. Two years of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been at the supervisory level or above:Eight years of experience in employee benefits; ORSix years of full-time experience in any field plus five years of experience in employee benefits; ORA bachelor's degree plus five years of experience in employee benefits; ORA Certified Retirement Counselor (CRC) or Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) designation plus four years of experience in employee benefits.EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTIONS:Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.The official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found
here.Job Duties:Manages the operational functions of the Member Services Division, consisting of the Member Information Center and all Retirement Processing sections.
Directly supervises the three Retirement Benefits Manager positions responsible for the six Retirement Department sections.
- Monitors the day-to-day operational functions of the division. Review Divisional policies and process procedures
Reviews existing legislation as it relates to current policy and procedures. Recommends changes, as needed, to maintain consistency.
- Oversees planning and coordination of the Retirement Department’s staff orientation, training, and education
- Consults with system administrators, staff attorneys, actuary, internal and professional auditors for clarification, interpretations, and guidelines involving decisions in unusual and more complex circumstances.
