ESI, an employee-owned company, is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Purchasing Specialist to support procurement activities for industrial equipment, materials, and subcontracted services. The ideal candidate will possess strong experience in negotiating commercial terms and conditions with vendors and subcontractors, excellent communication skills, and a solid understanding of purchase order administration and review processes.


This position plays a key role in ensuring procurement activities are executed accurately, professionally, and in alignment with company requirements and project objectives. Key competencies include: negotiation skills, attention to detail, communication and relationship management, problem solving and critical thinking, time management and organizational skills, commercial awareness, and contract review capabilities.


Purchasing Specialist Responsibilities:


  • Prepare, issue, and manage purchase orders for equipment, materials, and subcontracted services.
  • Review purchase orders for accuracy, completeness, pricing, scope, and contractual compliance prior to submission to vendors.
  • Negotiate commercial terms and conditions with industrial equipment vendors and subcontractors to protect company interests and minimize risk.
  • Coordinate with internal departments including engineering, project management, operations, and accounting to support procurement activities.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing records, vendor documentation, and procurement files.
  • Monitor supplier performance related to delivery, quality, responsiveness, and contractual obligations.
  • Support continuous improvement of purchasing processes and procurement documentation standards.


Requirements:


  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Supply Chain Management, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of purchasing or procurement experience, preferably in industrial equipment, manufacturing, construction, or engineered systems environments.
  • Demonstrated experience negotiating terms and conditions with vendors and subcontractors.
  • Strong understanding of purchase order processes and procurement documentation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and ERP/purchasing software systems.
  • Knowledge of Viewpoint Vista is a PLUS.
  • Experience working with industrial equipment suppliers, fabrication vendors, or construction-related subcontractors is a PLUS.
  • Familiarity with contract language, commercial risk mitigation, and supplier qualification processes is a PLUS.
  • Experience supporting project-based procurement activities is a PLUS.
