Job Title: PM Technician / Maintenance Engineer – 2nd Shift

Job Description

The Preventive Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing scheduled maintenance and repairs on production and packaging equipment in a food and beverage manufacturing environment. This role focuses on maximizing equipment uptime, supporting food safety and quality standards, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on production and packaging equipment, including motors, conveyors, pumps, and HVAC systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems such as 3-phase motors, gearboxes, and control panels to restore equipment to safe and reliable operation.
  • Conduct routine inspections and diagnostics to identify wear, damage, or potential failures before they cause downtime.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of all maintenance activities using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Assist with the installation, setup, and commissioning of new production and packaging equipment.
  • Collaborate closely with production and quality teams to minimize downtime and support compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and SQF standards.
  • Participate in root cause analysis for recurring equipment issues and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Follow all safety protocols, lockout/tagout procedures, and company policies while performing maintenance tasks.
  • Participate in safety audits, training sessions, and continuous improvement activities to enhance equipment reliability and workplace safety.

Essential Skills

  • 2–5 years of experience in industrial maintenance, preferably in a food or beverage manufacturing environment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience in mechanical troubleshooting and repair.
  • Experience performing preventive maintenance on production and packaging equipment, including motors, conveyors, pumps, and HVAC systems.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing 3-phase motors, gearboxes, and mechanical control components.
  • Ability to interpret and work from schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation.
  • Experience using CMMS platforms for maintenance work orders and preventive maintenance scheduling.
  • Understanding of GMP and SQF practices as they relate to maintenance in a food and beverage facility.
  • Ability to work safely in cold, wet, or noisy environments typical of food processing facilities.
  • Willingness to work varied shifts, including weekends or overtime as needed.
  • High school diploma or GED.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Technical certification or associate degree in industrial maintenance, mechatronics, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience with hydraulics and pneumatics in an industrial setting.
  • Strong mechanical inclination and problem-solving skills for diagnosing equipment issues.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams in production, quality, and operations.
  • Strong documentation skills for recording maintenance activities and findings in CMMS.

Work Environment

This is a 2nd shift, full-time position with an 8-hour schedule, five days per week, with the specific days worked varying as business needs require. The role is based in a food and beverage manufacturing facility that can be cold, wet, and noisy at times, consistent with typical food processing operations. You will work around production and packaging equipment, including motors, conveyors, pumps, and HVAC systems, and use a CMMS to manage maintenance tasks and documentation. The environment emphasizes safety, adherence to GMP and SQF standards, and close collaboration with production and quality teams.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Frederick, MD.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.
