Payroll Tax Specialist
We are seeking a detail‑oriented Payroll Tax Specialist to join our client's payroll team in Nashville, TN. This role will be responsible for ensuring accurate payroll tax processing, compliance, and reporting across federal, state, and local jurisdictions. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of payroll tax regulations and enjoys working in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process, review, and reconcile payroll tax filings (federal, state, and local)
- Ensure accurate calculation and timely remittance of payroll taxes
- Prepare and file quarterly and annual payroll tax returns (941, 940, W‑2, W‑3, state equivalents)
- Research and resolve payroll tax discrepancies, notices, and audits
- Coordinate with payroll vendors and internal teams to ensure compliance
- Track and maintain tax rates, garnishments, and regulatory updates
- Maintain accurate records and documentation to support audits and reporting
- Assist with process improvements and payroll system updates as needed
Qualifications:
- 2+ years of payroll tax or payroll accounting experience
- Strong knowledge of federal, state (including Tennessee and multistate), and local payroll tax laws
- Experience preparing and filing payroll tax forms (941, 940, W‑2, W‑3)
- Familiarity with payroll systems (ADP, Paychex, Workday, UKG, or similar platforms)
- High attention to detail and strong analytical skills
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities
- Proficiency in Excel and payroll reporting tools
