About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Accountant to join our Corporate Office and lead bi-weekly, multi-state payroll processing in Workday. This role is responsible for ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations.

This is a hands-on position overseeing the full payroll cycle, from time-entry review through final settlement. The Payroll Accountant will also manage garnishments, tax filings, year-end reporting, W-2 processing, and support 401(k) audit activities. Key Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end bi-weekly payroll processing for multiple business entities using Workday Payroll and Workday Time & Attendance.
  • Review and validate employee time entries, follow up on missing punches, and partner with managers to ensure payroll readiness each cycle.
  • Audit payroll-related inputs, including costing allocations, PTO payouts, bonuses, and car allowances.
  • Reconcile payroll settlement reports, verify fund disbursements, and resolve journal entry discrepancies.
  • Process wage garnishments, manage returned ACH payments, and respond to payroll tax notices.
  • Coordinate registration for new state tax IDs and support tax code setup in Workday as the company expands into new jurisdictions.
  • Process off-cycle payrolls and payroll reversals as needed.
  • Lead year-end W-2 setup, review, and distribution.
  • Support nondiscrimination testing, Form 5500 preparation, and 401(k) audit activities.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for payroll-related inquiries from employees and managers.

Qualifications

Required

  • Hands-on experience with Workday Payroll and Workday Time & Attendance is required.
  • 3+ years of experience processing full-cycle, multi-state payroll.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong understanding of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations, garnishments, and year-end payroll reporting.
  • Excellent attention to detail with strong auditing and reconciliation skills.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Preferred

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC).
  • Experience supporting multiple legal entities within a single Workday tenant.
  • Knowledge of 401(k) administration and payroll-related benefit deductions.
  • Familiarity with third-party tax compliance platforms such as OneSource Virtual.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP.
