Job Description:

Position Summary

The Quality Engineer – ZEISS Metrology ensures product quality and dimensional accuracy using ZEISS metrology systems and core quality engineering practices. This role supports manufacturing, engineering, and customers by developing inspection programs, analyzing measurement data, and driving continuous improvement.


Key Responsibilities

Metrology & Inspection

  • Provide inspection support (CMM, hard gaging, etc.) for Applications, Turnkey, and test cut projects
  • Program, operate, and maintain ZEISS Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs)
  • Develop inspection programs using ZEISS CALYPSO, Inspect, and/or PiWeb
  • Perform First Article, in-process, and final inspections
  • Interpret engineering drawings and apply GD&T per ASME Y14.5

Quality Engineering

  • Investigate nonconformances and conduct root cause analysis (8D, 5 Whys, Fishbone)
  • Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
  • Support quality systems such as ISO 9001, AS9100, and ISO 13485
  • Analyze measurement data and generate quality reports

Manufacturing & Cross-Functional Support

  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Automation teams to improve processes
  • Support new product introduction (NPI) and process validation activities
  • Assist with supplier quality and part qualification
  • Provide training and technical guidance on inspection methods

Customer & Compliance Support

  • Interface with customers during audits and quality reviews
  • Support customer-specific measurement and documentation requirements
  • Contribute to continuous improvement in metrology processes

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3+ years of experience in quality engineering or metrology
  • Hands-on experience with ZEISS CMMs and related software
  • Strong understanding of GD&T
  • Experience in precision manufacturing (machining, aerospace, medical, automation, etc.)
  • Knowledge of statistical tools (SPC, MSA)
  • Experience supporting audits and compliance documentation
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills

Additional Information

  • Travel: Up to ~10% as needed
  • Supervision: None
  • Physical Requirements: Desk work plus ability to walk shop floors; occasional lifting up to 25 lbs; PPE compliance required
