Job Title: Metal Building Sales Engineer (PEMB / Structural)
Location: Remote (U.S.) | Hybrid collaboration with Oklahoma-based leadership
Compensation: $70,000–$120,000 base (commensurate with experience) + 1%-10% annual merit-based bonus potential
About Metal Building Industries:
Metal Building Industries (MBI) is a national provider of pre-engineered metal building systems (PEMBs) and structural steel solutions for complex commercial construction projects. We specialize in delivering custom, non-standard structures—not just basic “box” buildings—through a collaborative, design-driven, turn-key approach.
Due to rapid growth and increasing RFP volume, we are expanding our team by embedding sales engineering expertise directly into our sales process.
The Opportunity:
We’re hiring a Metal Building Sales Engineer to serve as the technical resource within our sales team. We are a small, focused, but geographically distributed team, so this opportunity is available as either in-office or remote role.
This is not a quota-carrying or commissioned sales role. Instead, you’ll own the engineering strategy behind winning projects—developing preliminary designs, guiding value engineering, and helping shape competitive proposals for complex PEMB and structural steel projects.
You’ll work directly with company leadership (including the CEO) and play a visible role in influencing project wins and company growth.
What You’ll Do:
- Develop preliminary structural designs, layouts, and concepts for PEMBs and hybrid steel structures
- Produce accurate material takeoffs, cost inputs, and estimates using tools like MBS, RISA-3D, and Excel
- Lead technical scoping and solution development during RFQs/RFPs
- Partner with sales, architects, contractors, and owners to translate project requirements into engineered solutions
- Provide value engineering recommendations to improve cost, constructability, and performance
- Review drawings, specs, and bid documents to identify risks and opportunities
- Participate in client meetings and presentations as the technical subject matter expert
- Ensure designs align with IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, and applicable local codes
- Support handoff to operations/engineering teams post-award
- Contribute to process improvements, automation tools, and engineering best practices
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
- 7+ years of structural engineering experience, including:
- 3+ years in metal building (PEMB) design
- Experience with Metal Building Software (MBS) (required)
- Proficiency in structural/design tools such as:
- Bluebeam (For Schematic Designs)
- MBS (Primary Engineering Tool)
- RISA-3D & EnerCALC (For additional engineering tasks)
- Tekla Structures (For 3D model creation/manipulation)
- Strong knowledge of:
- Structural steel systems
- Load calculations (wind, seismic)
- Building codes (IBC, ASCE 7, AISC)
- PE license or EIT certification
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting preconstruction, estimating, or design-build sales environments
- Familiarity with value engineering in competitive bid scenarios
- Exposure to complex or non-standard PEMB structures
- Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
What Success Looks Like:
- High-quality, accurate preliminary designs that improve win rates
- Effective collaboration with sales to differentiate proposals
- Faster turnaround on RFQs without sacrificing technical rigor
- Clear communication of complex engineering concepts to clients
Benefits:
- Medical, dental, vision insurance
- Life and disability insurance
- Flexible spending account (FSA)
- 401(k) with company match
- Paid time off
- Remote (U.S.) | Hybrid collaboration with Oklahoma-based leadership
