Mechanical Engineer

TeraWulf
West Palm Beach, FL

This position can be based in West Palm Beach, FL; New York, NY; Barker, NY; Hawesville, KY; or Morgantown, MD.

About the Role:

TeraWulf is building large-scale AI/HPC data centers, and the Mechanical Engineer will serve as an owner-side technical resource for mechanical design, tenant requirements, standards, and project execution.

The role supports mechanical systems across data center projects, including chilled water plants, heat rejection, pumping systems, airside systems, liquid cooling infrastructure, CDUs, RDHx, CRAHs, fan walls, controls interfaces, and mechanical redundancy. The position works closely with external engineers, contractors, vendors, commissioning agents, operations teams, and tenant-facing commercial teams.

Responsibilities

  • Support development of mechanical design standards, basis-of-design documents, specifications, reference architectures, and repeatable project templates.
  • Review mechanical designs for capacity, redundancy, reliability, maintainability, energy efficiency, constructability, cost, schedule, and operational alignment.
  • Evaluate mechanical systems, equipment, vendors, and technologies, including central plant equipment, modular mechanical systems, liquid cooling infrastructure, CDUs, RDHx, CRAHs, fan walls, pumps, valves, heat exchangers, filtration, humidification, water treatment, and heat rejection systems.
  • Support procurement and vendor due diligence through equipment comparisons, submittal reviews, factory acceptance testing, manufacturing quality reviews, and long-lead equipment coordination.
  • Translate tenant mechanical requirements into design criteria, scope demarcations, interface requirements, lease support language, and implementation plans.
  • Evaluate tenant requests related to rack density, cooling allocation, liquid cooling, CDU interfaces, RDHx, environmental criteria, redundancy, controls, commissioning, filtration, humidity control, and deployment phasing.
  • Help determine whether requested mechanical work belongs in Landlord base build, tenant fit-out, tenant equipment scope, or separately priced scope.
  • Review mechanical drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, equipment schedules, sequences of operation, design changes, commissioning plans, test scripts, and turnover documentation.
  • Identify design gaps, unclear demarcations, constructability issues, operational concerns, and cost or schedule risks; help drive issues to resolution.
  • Participate in site walks, punch list reviews, commissioning activities, issue tracking, and construction-to-operations handoff.
  • Maintain clear technical documentation, including review comments, decision logs, risk assessments, scope matrices, and design change evaluations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline.
  • 5–8 years of progressive mechanical engineering experience, including design, construction, commissioning, or owner-side technical oversight.
  • Experience with data centers, mission-critical facilities, central utility plants, industrial cooling systems, or large-scale commercial MEP projects strongly preferred.
  • Experience with liquid cooling, CDUs, RDHx, high-density rack environments, chilled water plants, or AI/HPC deployments strongly preferred.
  • Experience reviewing drawings, specifications, submittals, RFIs, control sequences, commissioning plans, and equipment documentation.
  • Ability to coordinate with engineers, vendors, contractors, commissioning agents, operations teams, commercial teams, and tenants.
  • Working knowledge of relevant IBC, IMC, ASHRAE, NFPA, and data center design guidance.
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam, Procore or equivalent, AutoCAD/Revit read-level fluency, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace.
  • PE license or EIT certification a plus but not required.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%.
