A well-established manufacturing company is seeking an experienced Materials Manager to lead all aspects of materials flow, procurement, and supply chain operations. This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for ensuring production continuity, optimizing inventory, and driving cost efficiency across the organization.


Position Overview

The Materials Manager will oversee the full lifecycle of materials, including procurement, inventory control, planning, warehousing, and distribution. This individual will lead Purchasing, Shipping & Receiving, and Planning functions while ensuring materials are available to meet production demands efficiently and cost-effectively.


Key Responsibilities

Procurement & Supplier Management

  • Identify, evaluate, and manage vendor relationships
  • Negotiate pricing, contracts, and supply agreements
  • Source raw materials, components, and operational supplies

Inventory Control

  • Maintain accurate inventory levels (raw materials, WIP, finished goods)
  • Reconcile ERP system data with physical inventory counts
  • Reduce excess, obsolete, and slow-moving inventory

Planning & Forecasting

  • Analyze production schedules to determine material requirements
  • Ensure timely availability of materials to prevent downtime
  • Collaborate with production and operations teams

Logistics & Warehousing

  • Oversee receiving, storage, and internal material flow
  • Ensure efficient movement of materials to the production floor
  • Optimize warehouse organization and processes

Compliance & Continuous Improvement

  • Ensure adherence to safety and quality standards
  • Drive process improvements and cost reduction initiatives
  • Enhance overall supply chain efficiency

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, or related field (preferred)
  • 5+ years of experience as a Materials Manager in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong experience with ERP/MRP systems
  • Proven leadership experience managing 6–10 direct reports and teams of 15–20+
  • Excellent negotiation and vendor management skills
  • APICS certification highly preferred
