Position Summary

The Manufacturing Engineer, part of the Fabrication Group, is responsible for the methods, equipment, tooling, fixture design and procurement of fabricated components. They will be part of the decision-making process in determining the planning, costing, and scheduling aspects of new product development parts as well as maintenance of legacy components. Design to Manufacture, Assembly, Cost, Supply Chain, and Schedule will be key skills and processes for this position. This position will analyze manufacturing operations as a basis for methods improvements, standardization, scheduling, budget, pricing, control and cost reduction.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Methods engineering, recommending and implementing improvements in flow, process, tools, equipment, and materials. Specifies detailed planning of individual products and processes.
  • Provides support for manufacturing to correct, improve or initiate processes/tooling or methods.
  • Participates in Engineering design reviews on new products and design changes for Design to Manufacture, Assembly, Cost, Supply Chain and Schedule.
  • Participates and/or leads in the specification of new capital equipment needs by preparing Statement of Work documentation and communicating and working with suppliers.
  • Coordinates and aids in the preparation of capital assets and expenditure budgets.
  • Investigates and analyzes requests for additions or changes in equipment and the facility.
  • Prepares manpower and machine loading data and conducts capacity studies.
  • Works with suppliers as needed that perform outside processing of the machined parts.
  • Develops cost studies of new manufacturing methods, equipment, and processing and compares with present methods, and prepares summary briefings with recommendations.
  • Supports the preparation of part program and related information for CNC areas.
  • Responsible for developing and recommending courses of action in manufacturing.
  • Frequent contact with both internal and external personnel to convey ideas involving production parts, supplies, equipment and materials.
  • MRB support in rework instructions and corrective action to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Performs special assignments at the request of management. Direct work of other personnel assigned to expedite completion of special assignments.
  • Lead continuous improvements efforts in fabrication to reduce cycle time, set up time, and improve equipment efficiency.
  • Understand and enforce AS9100 standards through operations and manufacturing process.
  • Experience interfacing with ERP programs to execute operational excellence.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Job related experience will be considered in lieu of appropriate educational certifications.
  • 7 -10 years of experience in manufacturing, particularly in Aerospace, Automotive and Industrial.
  • Minimum experiences in standard machining operations, including turning, milling, and grinding. Hands on experience in CNC multi-axis machines is highly desirable.
  • CAD design/drawing experience with CATIA V5, Solidworks, and / or Creo.
  • Lean Manufacturing, LEAN tools, and Six Sigma knowledge is highly desirable
  • Proficiency with GIBBSCAM programming or equivalent programs such as MASTERCAM, ESPIRIT or BOBCAT highly desirable.
