The Maintenance Supervisor is to provide leadership and technical expertise in the maintenance executions, and maintenance work process, as well as engineering, projects, and plant services.


Organization Structure

The Maintenance Supervisor reports to the Maintenance Coordinator who reports to the Maintenance, who reports to the Plant Manager as do the Procurement Manager, Mine Manager, Production Manager, Optimization Manager, Environmental Manager and Human Resource Manager.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Maintenance Supervisor, Under the direction of the Maintenance Coordinator leads & supports execution of Major and Specialized Maintenance jobs. Collaborate and participate in Operations and Process jobs, developing and executing Preventive, Predictive and Corrective Maintenance activity programs, and providing technical support to Maintenance and Operations Functions in Continuous Improvement Activities.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervises the maintenance mechanics, maintenance and electrical technicians, that are either employees or contractors.
  • Plans, schedules and directs the inspection, repair and servicing of cement plant production machinery and equipment. Inspects work in progress and assigns personnel to jobs in accordance with schedule and skills available.
  • Coordinates activities with other supervisors to maximize production and minimize downtime.
  • Assists in creating plant shut down scheduled to ensure coverage.
  • Reviews status of repair items being fabricated in the shop to ensure conformance with specifications.
  • Ensuring that all plant equipment is operational, clean and safe.
  • Requisitions materials, supplies and equipment from stores, as required, to ensure a smooth continuous operation.
  • Approves store requisitions for repair materials and parts.
  • Participates in "on-call" program with other Maintenance Supervisors and Maintenance Planner.
  • Prepares and approves daily time sheets.
  • Actively participating in regular safety/maintenance meetings.
  • Identifying and providing maintenance and safety training to employees.
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe work environment as outline by MSHA and company regulations.
  • Investigates and reports on accidents involving employees and equipment. Promotes and enforces safe working practices and good housekeeping.
  • Maintains current knowledge of collective bargaining agreement and related plant policies. Seeks opportunities to promote and instill an attitude of cost and profit consciousness.
  • Continues self-improvement activities especially in the area of welding, repair techniques and machine shop equipment. And other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications:

  • Must be willing and able to work rotating shifts.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Some college in a related field is preferred.
  • 3-5 years supervisory experience in a cement or similar industrial plant preferred.
  • Supervising in a union environment is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in industrial maintenance work, including equipment failure, troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Computer proficiency to include Microsoft Office programs. Oracle, Tabware & MAXIMO experience is a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Good organization and decision-making abilities.
  • Must have knowledge of safety regulations, environmental regulations, welding and repair.
  • Ability to work without supervision and be self-motivated.
  • Good mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings and blueprints. Job role includes physical demands in either hot or cold working environments.
  • Role may require off-hours call-out, weekend or night shift on occasion basis.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, confined space, outside weather conditions, low lighting, artificial lighting, and explosives. The employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, proximity to electrical equipment, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally loud.


Training Required:

MSHA 40 hr. training (5 days)
