Performs intermediate-skilled legal work researching and preparing legal documents, fulfilling public record requests, assisting the City Board of Appeals, performing basic office duties, maintaining and updating databases, drafting correspondence and motions, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the supervision of the Director of Law. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Working knowledge of legal office practices, procedures and techniques; general knowledge of legal terminology; working knowledge of departmental functions, organization and policies; general knowledge of the principles, methods and practices utilized in legal research; working knowledge of governmental law.
Skill in the use of personal computers, associated software packages, hardware, and peripheral equipment; skill in analytical, problem-solving, organization, and time-management.
Ability to keep the confidentiality of records and information obtained through working in the Law Department and attendance at meetings. Ability to utilize online law library resources and working knowledge of research tools; ability to conduct legal research and analysis; ability to maintain office and legal records; ability to organize and perform work independently; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree with coursework in law or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This work is generally sedentary and requires little to no exertion of force; work frequently involves sitting and occasionally requires standing, walking, speaking or hearing. This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions, close vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data and operating machines; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy locations (e.g. business office, court room).
