Job Description

This role focuses on performing split system HVAC changeouts in quadplex apartment units, ensuring safe, efficient, and code-compliant installation of heating and cooling equipment. The HVAC Technician applies strong mechanical aptitude, technical HVAC knowledge, and troubleshooting skills to replace existing systems with minimal disruption to tenants while maintaining high standards of quality and safety. The position involves hands-on field work, coordination with property teams and other trades, and clear communication throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities
  • Remove and replace residential split system HVAC equipment, including condensers, air handlers, furnaces, evaporator coils, and related components in quadplex apartment units.
  • Perform complete system changeouts, ensuring proper sizing, placement, airflow, refrigerant charge, and overall system performance.
  • Disconnect and reconnect refrigerant lines, electrical wiring, condensate drain lines, and thermostats in accordance with manufacturer specifications and best practices.
  • Braze and pressure-test refrigerant piping, evacuate systems, and properly charge with refrigerant.
  • Install, modify, or adapt duct connections as needed to ensure proper airflow and system efficiency.
  • Start up systems and verify proper operation through testing and commissioning procedures.
  • Interpret and follow local mechanical codes, building regulations, and manufacturer installation guidelines.
  • Identify and address existing system or infrastructure issues that could impact installation quality or performance.
  • Safely use hand tools, power tools, and HVAC-specific equipment.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting and minor repairs during changeouts when necessary.
  • Maintain cleanliness and professionalism while working in occupied apartment units.
  • Coordinate with property management, maintenance staff, and other trades to complete work efficiently and on schedule.
  • Communicate clearly with supervisors and team members regarding job progress, material needs, and potential issues.
  • Document work performed, including equipment installed, materials used, and system checks.
  • Comply with OSHA safety standards and company safety policies at all times.
Essential Skills
  • Proven experience performing residential HVAC split system changeouts.
  • Hands-on experience installing condensers, air handlers, furnaces, and evaporator coils.
  • Strong knowledge of refrigerant handling, brazing, evacuation, and charging procedures.
  • Understanding of electrical wiring, controls, thermostats, and basic HVAC diagnostics.
  • Familiarity with local mechanical codes and HVAC installation standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer installation manuals.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort using HVAC tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • Effective troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced, field-based environment.
  • Physical ability to lift equipment, work in confined spaces, and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Good communication skills for interacting with tenants and coordinating with team members.

This is a Contract position based out of Winchester, KY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $50.00/hr.
