HR Generalist

At a&bé and anna bé, we pride ourselves on our customer experience and expert sales team. As a company of 13 stores and counting, we see great value in providing added support to our in-store teams through focused ongoing training and development efforts to ensure that every employee has the tools they need to be successful. We are looking for an HR Generalist who is collaborative, organized, and driven to help teams succeed. This role serves as a business partner to senior leadership, including the VP of Operations and CEO, bringing forward proactive recommendations, well-formed opinions, and clear next steps. The HR Generalist must be confident, knowledgeable, and assertive, bringing new ideas and solutions forward rather than waiting to be asked. 


Key Responsibilities:

  • Multi-Site HR Support: Provide end-to-end HR support for all retail locations and remote employees, including HR operations, compliance, and employee relations.
  • HR Team Leadership: Oversee and provide direction to HR employees, beginning with the Talent Acquisition and Training Lead, ensuring alignment with business priorities, consistency in execution, and scalable people practices.
  • Strategic Partnership: Act as a confident advisor and thought partner to the VP of Operations and CEO, proactively bringing forward ideas, recommendations, and next steps on all people-related matters. This role does not wait to be asked. It identifies needs and presents solutions.
  • Store Expansion Support: Partner with operations leadership to support the launch of new retail locations by coordinating hiring efforts, setting up payroll infrastructure, and ensuring compliance with tax and labor regulations.
  • Full-Cycle HR Management: Lead recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and terminations across all retail and administrative teams, including conducting exit interviews and performing yearly offboarding analysis.
  • Compensation Strategy: Conduct semi-annual compensation analysis to maintain market competitiveness and internal equity across roles and locations.
  • Performance Management: Oversee structured performance review processes, improving feedback quality and accountability among staff.
  • Career Development: Continuously enhance and scale established career progression pathways for in-store employees, aligning development opportunities with evolving business needs to drive long-term engagement, internal mobility, and retention.
  • Training & Development: Develop and deliver quarterly leadership training programs to enhance team management skills and operational effectiveness.
  • HR Analytics & Strategy: Own and report on key HR metrics (retention, internal performance rate, offer acceptance rate, and HR budget), using data to drive strategic planning and process improvements.
  • Employee Relations & Compliance: Conduct internal investigations and manage employee relations issues, including multi-state compliance, leave administration, and policy adherence. Serve as a trusted advisor that employees come to freely with concerns and you cultivate a culture of open communication. Maintain and update the employee handbook.
  • Benefits Administration: Administer employee benefits including health insurance, dental, vision, employer HSA contributions, life insurance, and 401k. Ensure all records are maintained in accordance with statutory requirements.
  • Payroll Management: Own the payroll function as a primary duty. Oversee payroll for administrative staff and advise District and Store Managers on HR policies and employee-related matters.
  • Company Culture: Work closely with the senior leadership team to continually find ways to promote positive company culture.


Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of progressive HR experience, preferably in a multi-site or retail environment
  • Strong understanding of multi-state labor laws, including California
  • Proven track record of improving HR processes and employee engagement
  • Experience in HR metrics, payroll, and compliance
  • Demonstrated confidence in presenting ideas, opinions, and recommendations to senior leadership
  • Proactive and solutions-oriented; a hands-on approach required for all aspects of this position
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and time-efficient with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience coaching managers and leading trainings
  • Located near one of our shops preferred

  • Compensation: $63,000 - $70,000 per year

  • This is a full-time M–F salaried position. This position reports directly to the VP of Operations.
