Director, Human Resources

Position Overview

The Director of Human Resources leads the day-to-day execution of the HR function and works to drive alignment with business goals. This senior leader oversees key HR areas such as employee lifecycle programs, workforce planning, employee relations, total rewards, payroll administration, compliance, leadership support, and team development.


The role works closely with executive leadership to strengthen organizational effectiveness, support business transformation, and promote a productive, compliant, and people-centered workplace.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead core human resources operations across staffing, onboarding, performance support, employee engagement, policy administration, and workforce planning.
  • Manage and develop the HR team, setting direction, building capability, and ensuring high-quality service across the organization.
  • Create, refine, and implement people programs, procedures, and internal practices that support business needs and operational consistency.
  • Advise senior leaders on organizational structure, leadership planning, talent readiness, and change-related initiatives.
  • Oversee compensation and benefits activities, including benchmarking, annual planning support, and coordination with external providers.
  • Direct payroll processes and related controls to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant administration.
  • Drive enterprise talent programs such as goal-setting cycles, talent assessments, development planning, and workforce reporting.
  • Ensure adherence to applicable employment laws and regulatory requirements at the federal, state, and local level, including required reporting and audit readiness.
  • Guide employee relations matters with sound judgment, consistency, and appropriate risk awareness.
  • Develop and oversee orientation, training, and leadership development efforts that support employee growth and manager effectiveness.
  • Track and analyze HR metrics such as retention, staffing levels, turnover trends, and engagement indicators to inform decision-making.
  • Support internal and external reviews related to HR programs, documentation, and compliance matters.
  • Operate independently in managing functional priorities while escalating significant risk, policy, or strategic matters when needed.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related discipline.
  • At least 10 years of progressive experience in human resources.
  • At least 7 years of experience leading HR staff or functions.
  • Strong knowledge of employment law, compliance obligations, and HR best practices, including California requirements.
  • Experience designing and executing people initiatives in a dynamic, cross-functional environment.
  • Background overseeing HR systems, payroll, reporting, and process improvement.
  • Ability to influence leaders, manage competing priorities, and translate business objectives into practical people solutions.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced HR certification such as SHRM-SCP or SPHR.
  • Experience with organizational effectiveness, succession planning, and leadership coaching.
  • Familiarity with compensation planning, benefits strategy, and workforce analytics.

Work Environment

This role is primarily based in an office setting and may involve occasional travel. The position may also require standard physical activities such as sitting, standing, walking, using computer equipment, and occasionally lifting light materials.
