Role Description The Director of Human Resources is a full-time, on-site role based in Roberts WI. This role leads the HR function across Midwest Star Group’s operating companies, aligning HR strategy with business goals while supporting a diverse, multi-site workforce. Day-to-day responsibilities include overseeing recruitment and workforce planning, managing employee relations, and guiding performance management processes. The director will develop, implement, and update HR and safety policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with applicable labor and employment laws and regulations. The role also coordinates benefits and compensation practices, coaches managers on people leadership, and drives initiatives in culture, engagement, training, and organizational development. This position collaborates closely with senior leadership to support organizational growth, change management, and continuous improvement in HR practices. The position is hands on and processes payroll, workers compensation claims, and maintaining employee regulatory files.

Qualifications

  • Strong foundation in Human Resources management, including experience leading an HR function in a multi-location or multi-entity organization.
  • Recruitment savvy. Ability to get creative in finding great people for hard to fill roles.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and maintain HR policies and procedures (HR Policies) that align with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Proven expertise in Employee Relations, with experience addressing workplace concerns, coaching leaders, and fostering a respectful, inclusive work environment.
  • Hands-on experience in Performance Management, including goal setting, feedback processes, and performance improvement strategies.
  • Solid knowledge of Labor and Employment Law, with the ability to interpret and apply federal, state, and local regulations and mitigate HR-related risk.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate at all levels of the organization.
  • Experience in transportation, logistics, or related industries is preferred but not required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP/SCP, PHR/SPHR) is a plus.
  • Proven experience managing change, driving culture and engagement initiatives, and building scalable HR processes in a growing organization.
  • Management and implementation of an HRIS system is required.
  • Payroll processing and benefit administration experience with 3rd party support.
