Grinder / Shop Laborer

Pay: $20–$21/hour

Location: Vancouver, WA

Shift: Day Shift | 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM

Job Overview

We are seeking a Grinder / Shop Laborer to join a fast-paced finishing department. In this hands-on role, you’ll be responsible for grinding, deburring, and smoothing welded components, while also assisting with general shop duties such as material handling and occasional work in the wood shop. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working with tools, takes pride in producing quality finished parts, and is interested in learning multiple areas of fabrication over time.

Key Responsibilities
  • Grind, deburr, and smooth welded metal components to meet quality and finish standards
  • Operate hand and power tools including grinders, drills, and saws
  • Assist with material handling and movement of parts throughout the shop
  • Support powder coating and painting operations by preparing or handling parts as needed
  • Wrap and package materials and finished products in the wood shop
  • Read and follow basic drawings or blueprints to understand job requirements
  • Act as a general shop helper, supporting fabrication and finishing teams as needed
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
  • Operate a forklift if certified, or assist with safe material movement within the facility
Required Skills
  • Experience grinding and deburring metal components
  • Ability to safely operate grinders and common shop tools
  • Basic knowledge of material handling in a manufacturing or shop environment
  • Ability to follow instructions and work from basic prints or drawings
  • Comfortable working in a physically demanding, hands-on production setting
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with powder coating or industrial painting
  • Wood shop or woodworking experience
  • Familiarity with drills, saws, and other power tools
  • Forklift experience (preferred but not required)

Work Environment

This position is based in a manufacturing facility producing items such as park benches, playground equipment, fitness equipment, slides, and trash receptacles. The shop is partially open to the elements, meaning temperatures may vary with the seasons. Employees work around fabrication equipment, grinders, drills, saws, and material-handling tools, with time split between metal fabrication and wood shop areas. Proper safety gear and appropriate industrial work attire are required.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Vancouver, WA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.00/hr.
