Our client, a fertilizer manufacturer specializing in premium plant nutrition products for the horticulture and landscaping industry, is seeking a General Manager. Since 1983, the organization has supported growers, landscapers, retailers, and home gardeners in improving plant health, yield, and soil performance through innovative solutions and trusted brands. As a family-owned business, it prides itself on quality, collaboration, and long-term relationships with both customers and team members.


This General Manager will lead and oversee all aspects of operations, including manufacturing, retail, sales, marketing, finance, and HR. This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for driving profitability, operational efficiency, and team performance while helping shape the future growth of the business.


RESPONSBILITIES:

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of ~15 employees
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and high-performance culture
  • Set expectations, monitor performance, and drive accountability across teams

Operations & Supply Chain

  • Oversee day-to-day manufacturing and retail operations
  • Ensure efficiency, quality, and safety standards are met
  • Optimize processes to improve productivity and reduce costs
  • Manage inventory and partner with production on supply chain reliability

Sales Leadership

  • Lead and develop the sales team to drive revenue growth
  • Establish sales processes, pipeline management, and performance metrics
  • Expand prospecting efforts and strengthen customer segmentation

Financial Management

  • Own budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance
  • Analyze reports and implement strategies to improve profitability
  • Drive cost control and operational efficiency initiatives

Marketing & Strategy

  • Oversee brand positioning and go-to-market strategies
  • Evaluate and optimize marketing channels (digital, retail, trade shows)
  • Track KPIs and ROI to improve customer engagement and growth

Human Resources & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with federal and state employment laws
  • Oversee hiring, performance management, and employee development
  • Maintain a strong culture of engagement and accountability

Governance & Growth

  • Partner with ownership on strategic planning and business growth
  • Help implement governance structures and best practices
  • Support succession planning and long-term leadership development



WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

  • 10+ years in a senior leadership role
  • Proven experience overseeing operations, supply chain, sales, inventory management, and financial performance
  • Background in manufacturing, agriculture, chemicals, or related industries preferred
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities
  • Solid financial and business acumen (P&L ownership)
  • Strategic thinker with hands-on execution mindset
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
