The City of Kingman is looking for a dedicated and proactive Facility Custodian to play a vital role in the upkeep and preservation of City buildings. In this position, you will work closely with our Building Maintenance team to ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for the public and staff alike. About You

If you possess a comprehensive working knowledge of the equipment, materials, and specialized supplies essential for modern building maintenance and high-level custodial care. This includes technical proficiency in the preparation, safe use, and proper disposal of chemical cleaning agents, alongside the expert operation of mechanical apparatus, cleaning equipment, and motor vehicles. Safety is a cornerstone of this role; the successful applicant must demonstrate mastery of safety procedures when moving heavy furniture or equipment and be skilled in the proper use of ladders, dollies, and carts. Beyond cleaning, we are looking for an individual with the mechanical aptitude to perform routine maintenance, minor building repairs, and basic mathematical calculations to ensure operational accuracy.

In addition to technical skills, this position requires the physical stamina to lift heavy objects and remain standing or walking for extended periods. The ability to work independently, complete tasks according to a strict schedule, and adapt quickly to changing work priorities is essential. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Graduation from high school education or GED equivalent;
  • Any combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge and experience to perform the work.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Valid Arizona Driver’s License or ability to obtain one.
  • Ability to pass background check, may include polygraph and fingerprints

Custodial & Sanitation Services (50%):The primary focus of this role is the comprehensive cleaning and sanitization of City buildings to maintain a professional and hygienic environment. This involves high-frequency tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and buffing various floor surfaces, as well as cleaning windows, walls, and furniture. A critical component of this category is the daily disinfection of restrooms, replenishing essential supplies, and managing waste removal. Personnel are also responsible for responding to immediate sanitation needs, such as cleaning spills using proper safety protocols and signage to prevent workplace accidents.

Facility Maintenance & Grounds Care (20%):Beyond standard cleaning, this position requires active participation in the physical upkeep of the building’s interior and exterior. This includes performing minor semi-skilled repairs involving plumbing, carpentry, and painting, as well as assisting specialized technicians with larger remodeling projects. Exterior duties are equally vital, encompassing seasonal tasks like snow and ice removal, gutter cleaning, and basic landscaping such as raking and trimming. Maintenance also extends to preventative measures, such as changing air filters and light bulbs to ensure building systems remain operational.

Safety, Compliance & Inventory Management (20%):A significant portion of the role is dedicated to regulatory compliance and resource management. The employee must maintain an organized inventory of supplies while adhering strictly to OSHA regulations regarding the storage and labeling of hazardous chemicals. This involves preparing cleaning solutions according to precise specifications and maintaining up-to-date Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for Risk Management. Additionally, the role involves the inspection of custodial tools and the diligent documentation of work logs to ensure all safety standards and operational requirements are met.

Logistics, Security & Professional Operations (10%):The final category covers the logistical and professional support necessary for City operations. This includes the physical setup and breakdown of furniture and decorations for various events, requiring the manual movement of heavy equipment. Security is a key responsibility, as the individual is tasked with locking and unlocking buildings to maintain facility integrity. Professionally, the role demands consistent attendance and clear communication with the public and staff, ensuring that all activities align with City policies and safety standards.
