Public Works Maintenance Building Custodian - Full Time

SUMMARY
The Building Custodian performs routine maintenance work to ensure Town facilities, including boardwalk comfort stations, offices, and other municipal buildings, are clean, safe, and properly maintained. The Building Custodian reports to the Maintenance Foreman and must be able to work rotating shifts, including but not limited to evenings, weekends and holidays.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Mops and scrubs floors.
  • Cleans and sanitize bathrooms, collects trash; dusts; vacuums, sweeps and dry mops floor.
  • Washes windows and scrubs walls.
  • Opens and secures buildings as required.
  • Moves furniture and loads and unloads supplies.
  • Assists with snow removal operations as needed.
  • Cuts grass and cleans sidewalks.
  • Replaces light bulbs and neon tubes.
  • Cleans trash cans.
  • Maintains inventory of cleaning supplies by regularly stocking comfort stations, offices and facilities.

Candidate must have experience and knowledge with cleaning chemicals, proper handling and storage and use of chemicals safely as well as operating cleaning equipment.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • High school or GED preferred
  • Or up to one-month related experience or training
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • Valid driver's license
  • Must be able to pass all required alcohol/drug tests
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Must be able to read, write and discern written instructions.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Must be able to work rotating shifts, including but not limited to evenings, weekends and holidays.
